Not sure if this has been brought up here yet. I used the search function and couldn't find anything...1dunno1

So, why don't birds fly to the moon? Are they too stoopid to realize it's even there? If I was a bird, I would definitely be a moon bird.

Its been talked to death. That thread is around here somewhere ..

Why has it been talked to death...why is there more than one thread on this?

I got onto glp today to look for some interesting threads and found two on here today on the subject.

And now I read what people have to say, apparently this is a debated topic.

I've lost all hope for GLP readers now. If you guys are really debating this seriously..you are an idiot

I caught these two birds flying across the Moon Face about one week apart. Didn't notice them until I looked at video.

Re: Why don't birds fly to the moon?
because the escape velocity of earth requires like:
Mach 10.
25000 miles per hour.
7 miles per second.

A bit too fast for a bird, and because there is no air in outerspace
, and because it is +400 degrees on the sunny side and -250 degrees in the shade.

Moonbird

Remember Moonbird? - He lived on the moon with a flock of similar moonchicks
and moonhens. The colony was protected by the all-seeing Moonhawk. No two
moonbirds were the same, each having their own unique colour and pattern.
Surprising, then, to find that our star Moonbird was just plain old white. Anyway,
our cheery bird regularly followed a moonbeam down to earth where he could
experience all the quirks and quandries of our modern earthly existence...

Moonbird first appeared as daily strips in various Associated Newspaper titles.
In the early eighties, creator Mike Higgs regenerated the flighty fellow into a
childrens picture book character. Titles included:

Moonbird
Moonbird to the Rescue
Moonbird and the Unicorn
Moonbird and the Space Pirates

Re: Why don't birds fly to the moon?
Birds don't go to the moon because there's no worms to eat up there!!!
"Moonsoil" is just bone-dry, sterile dust about a centimeter or so deep, and in the daytime there it is well over 200 degrees, and at night it is like -270 degrees or so.
Worms cannot live in that environment.
Sorry :-(

The practice of keeping birds has been around for centuries, but aviculturists are still far from knowing all there is to know about our feathered friends. Even so, the knowledge that we have accumulated up to this point has brought to light many fascinating and sometimes amusing facts about the birds that we share our lives with. Check out a few of these amazing bird facts that are sure to inspire interest and appreciation for your pet -- as well as a few laughs.

•According to the BBC, the oldest parrot on record is a Blue and Gold Macaw named Charlie. Charlie is reported to have been owned by Winston Churchill, and is believed to be 104 years of age.

•There are over 350 species of parrots in the world.

•The smallest parrot species are the Pygmy Parrots, who average at about 8cm in length.

•The largest of the parrot species is the Hyacinth Macaw, which can grow to a length of about 40 inches from the beak to the end of the tailfeathers.

•At any given time, there are anywhere between one and two billion living birds on the planet.

•The only species of parrot that builds a nest is the Quaker Parrot. The Quakers link their nests together to form structures akin to "bird condominiums". These nests can reach weights greater than 200 lbs.

•The most common bird on the planet is the Chicken.

•Based on similarities in skeletal structure, a good number of scientists have theorized that many modern bird species evolved from the dinosaurs.

•Female Lovebirds often amuse their owners by shredding up the paper lining on their cage and placing the strips between their tailfeathers. This is an instinctual behavior that would allow the bird to carry materials back to her nesting site for construction.

•Migratory bird species fly in formation to conserve energy -- much like driving in a larger vehicle's slipstream can reduce the amount of gas you require.

•There are over 40 million pet birds living in the U.S.

•Some parrot species must fly over 500 miles a day in the wild to forage for food.

•Birds have a reduced sense of taste as compared to other animals, and science has yet to definitively prove that all bird species have a sense of smell.

•A bird's feathers weigh more than its skeleton does.

•The shape of a bird's beak directly corresponds to the type of diet it eats in the wild.

Even if a bird wanted to, they would need a space suit and a rocket to set them in and out of orbit but the real question is why? are they going there for food "moon worms" or to bring back moon rocks?
