Have you both EVER read the Constitution pre-Revolution?

If you did, you'd know in principal nothing changed, that article was put out for Referendum last year already.
And besides, we're still going to vote on it too...just cuz THEY passed it, doesn't mean its a done deal. Either way, it's all the same what you guys are freaking out over is ridiculous.

Secular versus Islamic

The tradition of Egyptian constitutions has been secular in nature since the first modern constitution was founded in 1923. However, an amendment that differs from this tradition was passed in 1980.

According to the 1980 amendment of the Constitution, Islamic law (Sharia) became the principal source of legislative rules. Such wording simply implies that any new law that is being enacted or considered for enactment should not be in contravention of any prevailing principles of Islamic law (Sharia). It is worth noting that laws regulating personal status issues (marriage, divorce, inheritance, etc.) are derived from Islamic norms, but penal law rules as codified in the Penal Code are entirely non-religious rules, whether they were ratified before or after the 1980 amendment. Egypt has also enacted a number of new laws to respond to contemporary standards of global economic and business reform including laws on investment, anti-money laundering, intellectual property rights, competition, consumer Protection, electronic signatures, banking, and taxation law.[1]

Y'all please forgive me for my horrible language and attitude.

I abhor religion. Absolutely hate it! It think organized religion is the sole source of evil and oppression on this planet. It seems so far removed from God, to me, that I just cringe whenever it is institutionalized in government. I mean, why not just worship Grimm's Fairy Tales? gaah

Anywho. I still don't have a clue why Scrump considers me a friend given my bizarre spiritual beliefs.

When constitution goes to the polls, judges may stay home

It is unlikely that judges would agree to supervise a public referendum on the new constitution unless President Mohamed Morsy cancels his recent constitutional declaration, Cairo Appeals Court head Gamal Ramadan said Thursday.

Ramadan told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the 22 November decree granting Morsy’s decisions immunity from judicial oversight has no legal basis as the president is not entitled to issue a constitutional declaration in the first place.

Yes, this is just the Constituent Assembly, which is a topic I'm tired off and most everybody I know too. So much arguing and stuff...anyways, if they finally pass a draft constitution, it will be put out for a Referendum which we Egyptians will vote yes or no. Then we'll see. If majority approves, we will have Parliamentary Elections within 60 Days.
That's the process President Morsi is trying to speed up so we can finish the transitional period, he can hand the executive power over as well as legislative once we got a Parliament again (that's btw written in his "controversial" decree).
All this arguing you see now, even the Protests, is just political power play, tug of war and some sheep fall for it.
I personally don't belong to either camp. I just want them to get on with it so we can have political and economic calm and stability.

nothing wrong with that as far as I'm concerned (praticing catholic here) My mentors taught to always consider other points of view for no one person or group has all the answers to every question.

Only beef I ever have is when people try to stuff their point of view down other people's throats without regard for others. I don't presume I speak for Scrump I'm only speaking for myself but I would imagine he would have a similar view.

Emergency Message for U.S. Citizens No. 15: Access to Embassy Currently Blocked By Protestors; Muslim Brotherhood Demonstrations Planned for December 1

November 29, 2012

The Embassy wishes to inform U.S. citizens that as of 1030 hours local time access into and from the Embassy is currently blocked by protestors. Police and protestors are clashing in the area of the Corniche checkpoint on Lazoughly Street, including on al-Shams and Osiris Streets. The Regional Security Office has instructed that no departures or arrivals from the Embassy will be permitted until further notice. The Embassy strongly urges U.S. citizens to avoid the Garden City area at this time.

Looking ahead to the weekend, media reports indicate that the Muslim Brotherhood is calling for a "million man march" on Saturday, December 1 to culminate in Tahrir Square. While there is no indication that the Embassy is a target of these protests, the Embassy's proximity to Tahrir Square, as we have seen this week, exposes it to any violence that develops. The Embassy strongly urges U.S. citizens to avoid Garden City this weekend. All appointments for routine American Citizen Services have been cancelled for Sunday, December 2, and those with appointments scheduled for that day will be contacted by email with a rescheduled appointment on another day.

As a matter of general practice, U.S. citizens should avoid areas where large gatherings may occur. Even demonstrations or events intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and possibly escalate into violence. U.S. citizens in Egypt are urged to monitor local news reports and to plan their activities accordingly.

The Embassy reminds U.S. citizens to review their personal security plans and remain alert to their surroundings at all times in Egypt. For the latest security information, U [link to egypt.usembassy.gov]

Gives a bit of an idea about some of the articles. I'm not sure what the rest are, although I suppose we will know within the next few days.

The framers of the US Constitution knew that when religion controls the government, the government controls religion.

What will happen to me if it gets too hot? Of course I will leave. I have a pretty blue passport with a gold eagle on it, and that gives me the freedom to go. It would break my heart because I do love this place (there is so much to love about it, really, there is).

And the people? There is this song that an Egyptian singer, Hisham Abbas, sang at the opening of a soccer match several years ago. In this song, he asks, in Arabic and in English, "Have you seen the Nile? Have you seen an Egyptian smile?" There is something about an Egyptian's smile that is ... I'm trying to find the words ... it's like they smile with their entire body ... I can't describe it with words but it's the most amazing thing to witness and I love it. Can I go? Sure. But I do not want to have to go.

Meh. How about something a little more upbeat? This is Hisham Abbas (who I first saw singing scat with Tony Bennett):

I can say this much. The chatter I've heard is the protests scheduled for tomorrow will be nothing, however Saturday will be big. So big, I'm told, that it "already feels like a real revolution."

Re: BREAKING: Morsi Stands His Ground - Clashes Erupt in Cairo near US Embassy - Emergency Message Issued for US Citizens
Security Message for U.S. Citizens No. 16: Demonstrations Planned Throughout Egypt on November 30 and December 1, 2012

The Embassy wishes to inform U.S. citizens that on Friday and Saturday, November 30 and December 1, demonstrations are being planned throughout Egypt. On Friday, opposition groups are planning anti-Muslim Brotherhood protests in Tahrir Square in Cairo and Al-Ibrahim mosque in Alexandria. On Saturday, groups including the Muslim Brotherhood are organizing rallies in support of President Morsi, also planned for Tahrir Square and Al-Ibrahim mosque. While the largest turnouts for both groups are expected in Cairo, similar events are planned throughout a number of governorates. As emotions are high among both groups, the likelihood of confrontation and violence exists, particularly if opposing factions come in contact with one another.

U.S. citizens are advised to avoid the downtown areas of Cairo and Alexandria throughout the weekend. As various groups may be marching toward assembly points, such as Tahrir Square or Al-Ibrahim mosque, spontaneous violence and heavy traffic congestion may extend well beyond city centers. U.S. citizens traveling outside of Cairo and Alexandria should be mindful of the volatility associated with the demonstrations and avoid downtown areas or known gathering locations prone to attract large groups.
Also, on Thursday morning, November 29, in reaction to a shift in location by the protestors that had been clashing with police throughout the week in Simon Square and near the Embassy’s northern perimeter, the Embassy elected to initiate an early departure for employees. These demonstrations, which have been occurring near the Embassy since Saturday, are currently on-going in the general vicinity of Simon Square. This area remains volatile, and the Embassy strongly discourages U.S. citizens from approaching the Embassy this weekend.
