Buy an old Mercedes, you can have it half rebuilt and still pay less than a new piece of shit would cost you. 30mpg on diesel, cargo capacity of a small SUV, can U turn on a two lane road.

Also damn tough:
Truck backed into it, no damage.

SUV backed into it, thousands of dollars of damage to SUV, broke a
tab off a rubber strip on the bumper. $100 if we ever care to repair
it.

Suburban rear ended us at 20mph, driver was distracted by kids
didn't even brake. We drove away after tying the still working tail lights back into place, repairs cost $3K. You can't fix a scratch on a new car for $3K.

The 3.0-liter, turbocharged diesel develops 241 horsepower and 406 pounds-feet of torque, and in its current application is paired with a five-speed automatic transmission. An eight-speed auto is rumored, but it's unclear whether the diesel will use this transmission.

The EcoDiesel engine should allow the Grand Cherokee to achieve up to 33 mpg on the highway, and 23 mpg city, with the five-speed.

My 20 year old "shit box" cost me $1,100.00. It has about 150k miles on it when we bought it last year, and it will probably go over 300k.

I don't carry collision insurance on it, because if I crash it, I'll just buy another one.

I don't lock it up because nobody looks at it.

I have no car payments and with the amount that I drive, it will last me about 10-15 years and for the cost of the vehicle, that comes out to be less then $100.00 a year it cost me over the course of 10 years.

I get from point A to point B exactly the same way that the person that drives the 50K car does. They probably financed it, and pay interest on it. They pay high insurance premiums on it, and worry about someone stealing it, dinging it, spilling coffee in it, and they paid out the nose and it won't last half as long as my old piece of crap.

So.........yea. I"m laughing.

GM is now producing shit. The engines are made in CHINA! The paint on the new GMs is crap, you can scratch It easily since its so thin.

Things these days just aren't made like they used to be.

We have gone through 3 new chainsaws in the last few years just cutting up dead trees on our lot for firewood. They all break, plastic pieces, all junk.

So, I got a really old chainsaw off craigslist, thing weighs a ton because it's all metal, no plastic. We can't break it even if we tried. Ugly old thing, weighs a ton, but solid as a rock and will probably last us 10 years and it didn't cost me anything while the $175.00 brand new ones at the hardware store didn't last.

Rented a Chevy Impala a few years ago.

Decided at that time GM had gone to crap.

I put 60-70k miles on a vehicle per year. This would not work for me, but every situation is different.

Bought a new 2010 toyota yaris cash with only 12k miles on it last year. So far, so good. Averaging 45mpg on 87 octane gas, commute 56 miles per day.

Actually, an engine's oil will burn either White or Blue depending on the problem.

White smoke at start-up and (sometimes) during idle, is the sign of leaky Valve-Stems. Leaky Vale-Steams are common among Chevy vehicles.

My daughter just bought the same thing..for her 1st car. I helped her pick it out. I also have a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. I love Jeeps.

We have a Jeep Grand Cherokee 2002 Overland.

We bought it as a horse taxi to tow a horse trailer now and then.

Now we find us using the Jeep more and more.

Nice drive, quiet as a mouse, comfy no end and if you need to its quick of the mark.

4.7 Ho likes his fuel, but it always brings us home no matter what the weather is like.

I've only owned Chevy vehicles. First car was a 1997 Chevy Cavalier (that was in 2001-2002). Then had a 1999 Cavalier for a long time. Couple years ago, after having 2 kids and pregnant with our third - we got a 2000 Chevy Blazer - was my first SUV and I LOVED it! Then just last year we got a 2005 Chevy Trailblazer - a little bigger, newer, nicer. If I didnt have 3 kids, I would def. stick with a smaller car, but an SUV/bigger vehicle is a must with 3 kids (and a dog). The Trailblazer is not that bad on gas either, seriously.

I've never had any issues with any vehicle - beyond routine maintenance.

Incorrect. Oil combusts the same every time. Sure, it'll burn "white" if coolant is introduced to the mix.

The 1999 Trans Am that carries me into Ankh Morpork and back to the estate each day has over 300,000 miles on the original LS1 and T56 transmission.

The Royal Mechanic has informed me that besides the routine oil and filter changes, serpentine belt replacements, air filter cleanings, tire replacements, etc., the following events have occurred since the vehicle's purchase:

Replaced spark plugs at 100,000.
Replaced struts and shocks are 145,000.
Replaced clutch and pressure plate at 165,000.
Replaced windshield at 170,000.(excessive stone chips)
Rebuilt rear differential at 175,000.(wheel bearings, pinion bearing, carrier bearings, new pinion and drive gear)
Replaced spark plugs again at 200,000.
Repainted vehicle at 210,000.
Replaced one broken beehive valvespring at 240,000.
Replaced windshield at 280,000. (more stone chips)
Replaced stock struts and shocks with Bilstein equipment at 285,000.
Replaced the starter at 288,000.
Replaced rack & pinion, power steering pump and all hydraulic lines at 295,000.

The vehicle was paid off in 2004.

It does not burn oil to this day, and tests show high and nearly equal compression at all 8 cylinders.
I would have to say that the cost of maintenance and upkeep has been worth the effort over buying a new vehicle.

For what its worth, a new GM LS6 crate engine is in storage in the royal garage awaiting the eventuality of the LS1 being retired permanently.

GM computer controlled LS1 and downstream LSx engines are worthy of serious kudos to the GM engineers of that era.
Mayhap they've all retired, and less capable men are now trying to fill their shoes?

As a car guy and former Jeep technician, I'd recommend a 1992 XJ Cherokee. That was just about the best one ever made.

I have had two 2 door wranglers, one Grand Cherokee, and now own a 4 door Wrangler X (rubi). We are ordering our SECOND Wrangler X (rubi) ... its on the assembly line now. Besides Jeeps we also like Hyundais. Depdendable vehicles all of them.

Jeeps do like Gas though, lol.

If you've not test driven the new Grand Cherokee 4x4 with the 8 cylicnder Hemi ... you're missing out. VROOM.

it's a fine vehicle. i'm liking it ... but it's taking some time getting used to the 6 cyl ... my last suv had a 360, lots of power but boy did it suck gas.
