In fact, he now runs the Origins Project at Arizona State University, which is a "transdisciplinary initiative that nurtures research, energizes teaching, and builds partnerships, offering new possibilities for exploring the most fundamental of questions who we are and where we came from." In this capacity, together with his scientific writing, he seeks to spread knowledge about the origins, evolution, and history of the universe to a general public. Krauss and Scientific Controversies: Lawrence Krauss is not one to shy away from a controversy, and working to find the origins of the universe can certainly cause some controversies. Religion and Science: Though he is an atheist, he often takes a devil's advocate-style position which at times places him in amiable conflict with some more prominent atheists, such as Richard Dawkins (who once said Krauss asked him an "I'm an atheist, but..." question, which are far harder to tackle than the outright pro-religion questions). It seems that Krauss's goal is to teach everyone - the faithful and the atheist - what science tells us about the universe and its history, not particularly caring about changing their underlying belief structure. String Theory Critic: Krauss is one of the most prominent and respected critics of string theory. His 2005 book, Hiding in the Mirror details the history and allure of invoking extra dimensions as a physical explanation, and calls into question whether this is really justified. Lawrence Krauss is a joke...just ask anyone at ASU |

The "why" is what ever meaning we give to it or to any action / creation. In the end there cannot be no ultimate "why" behind existence. Existence cannot originate from "why" but only "how" and even thats paradoxical because there is no "how" in the deepest level of existence there just "is". Everything is because that is how everything is. There cannot exist such thing as "nothing" but a concept since "nothing" defines itself as something that does not exist. It is just human made mind game because to us "nothing" means a concept of form or perception that is missing. In reality "nothing" is impossible. It is mindfuck because of our limited perception and concepts of reality. |

Though there is no mention anywhere of this in any religion. Religion, nor science has yet to give the answer as to what created the initial energy in the first place. And until then we are left with a haunting quote that I feel best describes what humans know about the universe as a whole. "The universe may not only be as queer as we suppose, but queerer than we CAN suppose". I don't think that using god as the answer is an answer at all. It's an escape from my point of view. I feel like the true answer of where our universe comes from is much scarier, and unknowable than any of us can fathom. It's entirely possible that our universe was birthed from a black hole in another universe which in return was birthed from a black hole in another universe, perhaps one that doesn't resemble our in the slightest. You have to keep an open mind about the origins of the creation of matter and energy, because as much as we understand, we have been here but a blink of an eye in the scheme of the cosmos, and we will probably hold no clearer image of them during our time in them. That's a sad thought. A discouraging one as well, but it's the truth. Science isn't thete, and may never be. But that doesn't mean that religion can explain this any better, given that no religion on earth has ever given any form of explanation as to where, how, or why the universe exists or what it is. We simply do not know. So stop arguing. |

This would also mean that you can not fold space if space had no structure at all because there would be nothing to fold. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 26789708 "Nothing" is far more complex than you're assuming. Lawrence Krauss clearly states in this video that space IS curved. We simply do not know. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 2672606 Interesting point. On that matter, I saw this posted on facebook and, although it is not religion, it is a complete theory. It purports to explain why things are the way they are and why the universe exists and what it is: [link to www.scribd.com] If this is really complete theory, then it might be good to consider what Hawking said about that: "...if we discover a complete theory, it should in time be understandable by everyone, not just by a few scientists. Then we shall all, philosophers, scientists and just ordinary people, be able to take part in the discussion of the question of why it is that we and the universe exist. If we find the answer to that, it would be the ultimate triumph of human reason..." |
