The numbers of people out of work are probably just as high, if not higher than the Depression. Here is the typical food a pantry gives out for a family of 4. You can only go to a particular food pantry once a month. 2 pounds hamburger 4 cans of vegetables 2 cans of fruit 2 boxes macaroni and cheese small box of instant mashed potatoes 4 bananas 4 medium size potatoes 3 packages of old bread/rolls This is 2-3 days worth of food for a family of 4. |

Those same things are happening today, but our technology has just masked them so that they aren't obvious to passers by. EBT cards allow 47 million people to stroll into a grocery store and act like they are buying food with their own money like anyone else. Electronic banking allows people to transfer huge amounts of money to try to protect themselves without beating down the door of their local bank. All that is needed for complete chaos to ensue in just a matter of days is for the electrical grid to be shut off. Even leaving that up and running, a bank holiday where the currency is revalued would result in millions of people being rudely awakened to just how bad off they really are. "God forbid we should ever be 20 years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, & always, well informed... If they remain quiet under such misconceptions it is a lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty... Let them take arms... What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. " - Thomas Jefferson in 1787 [link to line-in-the-sand.blogspot.com] |
