If you look at the more original texts (start with the Septuagint) it says that He gave all creeping things (reptiles) for food to eat. He goes on to say that any creature who has the breath of life in its blood, that creature you will not eat.

Even looking at todays translations, you can see that there is a difference between birds, livestock and every animal that creeps on the earth.

It is the creeping things He gave for food.
