Listen OP! The title of the thread is misleading. This is not what muslims do, this is what a tiny minority of Shia community does once a year to remind them of the suffering.

Besides, if you wana change the law and stop it, take it up with the authorities. I've been to Philippians and there's a group of Christians who practice exactly the same thing on the streets. They beat themselves up bloody.

Anyway, the point is, if you dont like it, do something about it. No use coming here and whining about it. I've traveled all over the muslim world and majority does NOT practice this form of religion.

I don't think one group should be above the law and allowed to do things to children that others would be arrested in a heartbeat for doing.

That's the path to complete destruction of the fabric of society and accepted social contract.

No other group is allowed to do what they please in this manner because it is their "culture" or any other reason.

The law is the only thing that is suppose to be followed in America. Not what the majority beg for. This is the advantage of a republic over a democracy.

The issue is some how we have made ourselves into a democratic society... which is a ticking time bomb itself. We were meant to be a republic. A society that only follows the law. Since adopting democracy we have created tons and tons of liberty conflicting laws. Do I think anyone should be above the law? Hell no... do I think the law has been perverted to invade on people's right to carry out their culture? Yes.

So, I typically advocate freedom of religion, regardless of what the current court systems rule. If they were splitting heads open just to split some heads open, I would be right there with you, but this is definetly a cultural thing.

btw... this doesn't look like downtown ATL. What city was this actually in? I live in the suburbs.

There are already plenty of laws against child abuse like the slashing of the scalp. And I would also think it in violation of health regs to have uncontained human blood all over the place like that, possibly being slung from the chains or whatever. You can't even throw away a used syringe without it being labeled bio-hazard.

So it's not a question of law but the lack of desire to enforce them that seems to be the problem.

I don't like a two tiered society--those who have to obey the laws and those who only obey the ones they want to obey.
