Right before I posted the thread, the chanting was so loud, it sounded eerie.
Then there was this terrible loud sound that was drowning out the chanting, and the crowd quieted down.

It sounds like it's picking up again, though.

Pressure piles on Mursi as thousands of Egyptians protest in Tahrir

Thousands of Egyptian President Mohamed Mursi’s opponents gathered in Cairo’s Tahrir Square for a fifth day on Tuesday to protest a recent decree granting him sweeping powers, in the most divisive crisis since he took power in June.

The protest called by leftist, liberal and socialist groups marks an escalation of the worst crisis since the Muslim Brotherhood politician was elected in June and exposes the deep divide between newly empowered Islamists and their opponents.

Thousands of lawyers left their syndicate chanting, “The people want the downfall of the regime,” -- the signature chant of the protests that toppled Hosni Mubarak last year-- as they made their way to Cairo’s iconic Tahrir Square.

“We will stay in Tahrir until Morsi cancels his declaration,” protester Ahmed Fahmy, 34 told AFP.

At least three people have been killed and hundreds more injured in violence set off by the move that has also triggered a rebellion by judges and battered confidence in an economy struggling to recover from two years of turmoil.

I suspect the same, the protesters vowed defiance against that decree and I don't believe they are going to give up that easily.

Last night's demonstration was massive, I don't know if you caught it at all, but I don't doubt that it will build up to the same size or even larger tonight.

Excuse me. They did not put him there. Just like 49% Americans did not put Obama in the white house, 49% egyptians did not put morsi in there as well. These are secular muslims, cops and other minorities who never voted for Morsi and its their rights he's after.

Well, looks like the next mass rally is set for Friday:

"Power has exposed the Brotherhood. We discovered their true face," said Laila Salah, a housewife at the Tahrir protest who said she voted for Morsi in last summer's presidential election. After Mubarak, she said, Egyptians would no longer accept being ruled by an autocrat.

"It's like a wife whose husband was beating her and then she divorces him and becomes free," she said. "If she remarries she'll never accept another day of abuse."

Gehad el-Haddad, a senior adviser to the Brotherhood and its political party, said Morsi would not back down on his edicts. "We are not rescinding the declaration," he told The Associated Press.

That sets the stage for a drawn-out battle that could throw the nation into greater turmoil. Protest organizers have called for another mass rally Friday. If the Brotherhood responds with demonstrations of its own, as some of its leaders have hinted, it would raise the prospect of greater violence after a series of clashes between the two camps in recent days.

Capital T for trouble in Egypt. Civil division is never good.

I don't Egypt has any part in the cease fire except as figure head.

the Egyptian people are just plain stupid, and they
deserve exactly what they've got.

"Islamists, such as Morsi, have said in the past that "...they want free and fair elections - ONCE!". As in, "Once we're in power there's no more need for any elections". I'll put 50% odds on a violent revolution in Egypt.

It all depends on how angry the Tahrir Square demonstrators (past and present) are about this usurpation of powers by Morsi and his cabal (Morsi's just the head of the snake) and how rapidly this regime clamps down on dissent. And clamp down they will - they'll spill blood as fast or faster than their predecessors because, after all, they have the blessing of Allah, so what other permission do they need?

The question is - will the masses be cowed when the shooting starts or will they throw themselves on the bayonets so their surviving compatriots can tear the government troops apart with their bare hands?"

And the same thing should be happening in the US, you got a communist, Kenyan born, lying Muslim destroying your once great nation from within and not a peep to be heard!!!
