I laugh every time I see this map, apparently drawn by some damned idiot, because it attempts to suggest that Israel has gone on a plan of conquest of surrounding territories, when nothing could be further from the truth.

In 1948, Israel declared independence, and was attacked with the purpose of the destruction of this fledgling nation. If you ever want to see the future of conflicts between Israeli and Arab forces, this one gives you a good peek.

On one side - tiny, broken, separated territories of Israel. On the other side - Transjordan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Yemenite contingent, elements of the Muslim Brotherhood, and Lebanon. Arabs were told to get clear of the territory as the Arab armies were going to wipe the Israelis from the map, and some 750,000 Arabs left to enable a more efficient slaughter of the Jews.

The Arab side attacked Israel.

Israel fights, whips their asses, and ends up with more territory - won in battle. Just like so many other national borders today were determined. So you'll see an increase in land area between the time Israel was founded and after the Arabs attacked. The Arabs that had left for other nations were denied assistance of any kind by their "brother Arabs."

In 1956, when Egypt nationalized the Suez, Israel joined Britain and France, and managed to reopen the Straits of Tiran and pacified its southern border.

In 1967, Israel was threatened for months with eradication by Jordan, especially Egypt, and Syria, assisted by troops and support from Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Algeria. Heavily outnumbered, Israel waited, even as Syrian forces rained down artillery inside Israel from the Golan Heights. Egypt ran out the UN force in the Sinai, and moved their heavy armor and support groups up toward the border. Israel utilized what in military terms is called a preemptive strike, and concentrated on Egypt first. It was a slaughter.

Turning to Syria, Israel took the Golan Heights and kicked the living siht out of Syrian forces. THEN they turned to Jerusalem, and kicked out the Jordanians right across to the far bank, taking the entire West Bank.

Israel, attacked yet again, had taken on the Arabs, and won huge, HUGE amounts of land.

After the 1973 war, Israel tried to give Gaza back to the Egyptians to administer - but Egypt said, "hell no. We don't want them."

And so when you look at this map, you'll see the bounty Israel has obtained each time they were attacked by Arab coalitions.

There is a lesson here. But if you're a dumbass Arab aggressor, you're not that smart to begin with, and certainly not emotionally stable enough to learn your lessons - thus the continuing education on the part of the Israelis each time they are attacked.
