If you're a business, you can discharge bad debt as uncollectable or can claim bankruptcy. Ordinarily as an individual you can discharge debt this way on almost all loans except student loans. It makes zero sense. |

The good thing in all this is that no more frivolous lending will take place. That will decrease the number of people going to college, thus making college degrees valuable again. |

He'll print the money for Sallie Mae defaulted loans. And after Sallie Mae gets paid back with free money from the Fed they'll still go after the original debtor to collect. Anything paid back by the original debtor will be pure profit. Quite a nice business model eh? “We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Credit cards companies have been feeding off of them for a long time also. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 25020296 Someone gets it. All this credit just drives prices higher and higher, why do you think the banks are always pushing down the prime rate via the central bank? There is a very small pool of "qualified" people to take on loans, so they have to lower their lending standards to sell more loans. They lower lending standards so they can get new loans for the fees, and then pass the real risk/liability off onto pension funds, money markets, etc via derivatives. What a complete scam of an eCONomy we have. |
