What Ever Happened to Integrity? | |

Remember when someone's word was enough to bind them. A handshake. Now, it is glazed eyes staring back at you. Rules that are put in place do not mean a thing if someone dislikes what you say. Promises are fantasies espoused with deaf ears on the one's proclaiming them. Integrity and its surrounding ideology are so lost in our world that we lie and twist words so often we have become accustom to it. I made a promise to myself about 4 or so years ago to never tell a lie. It started as just an experiment to truly see how much I 'fibbed' and 'white-lied'. It was amazing. I found myself being disingenuous all the time. For my own pride (?). Among other things I suppose. But, to not make anyone think 'worse' of me or to not get in any 'trouble'. And, even to make sure my spouse or children wouldn't get angry with me. etc, etc. Spend one week...no, spend one month not telling a lie, even a small one, and see what happens to yourself. Every time you tell one, even a small one, be AWARE of it and ask yourself why you had to lie, and if it was really worth it. And, WHY WAS IT WORTH IT? I was finding out where all my faults lie, and I was on a pace to fix all those things, to be genuine, to show others who I am and not what I wanted them to see. Then, about 2 years later, I find myself in a small corporate type environment. And, since I was wholly conscious of any 'lie' that came out of my mouth, I realize it was wholly necessary to lie in order to keep the job or do 'work'. Integrity does NOT drive the system. The system thrives on disingenuity to prosper. It is inherent in our systems. Politicians, and business, commercial advertisements, loans, collections, elections, family stability and societal acceptance and keeping up with the Jones'. Do it. Make a week out of it. Make a month out of it. See how long your integrity lasts. Then, when you realize what I am saying is truth, don't point your damn finger at anyone. Instead, realize that we are all in this together, and start fixing it. Start fixing it with yourself. As you found out it can be very difficult, but rewarding too. The only time I seem to stumble is when someone wants a truth that could hurt their feelings.. Question is, do you tell them and give upset or lie and hope everything runs smooth. It can seem quite egotistical comparing ones thoughts to others when you say to yourself 'how would I like to be told' but I think that it needs to be done. In all honesty I'd rather have constant truth than lies, as lies just lead to a downward spiral of more lies.. or at least remembering that first lie so you can continue your story.. it gets difficult to say the least. The truth hurts yes, but at least you can really progress after it.. and not question it either. |

I've become an extremely straight forward guy, and yes, at some points it makes people uncomfortable or whatever. But if your heart is true, then usually you can explain to people why you meant it the way you did. And, if you have REAL problem with it, just shut up and don't say anything at all. Me, I do not want to be around people that need to hear lies in order for me not to hurt their feelings. But, at the same time, I am very empathic and would not say something in order to hurt their feelings to get them to change. IMO, that is running off of fear and has been something that has been developed throughout the relationship. To lie and say otherwise is making them believe you are something you are not. JUST what was controlled by the puppet masters in Washington, via MONEY allocations that the 'town fathers', once hooked on the extra money couldn't tell the truth to their consituents. Very good point Bc even this world have been so filled with mind control and illusions on many levels to distract, confuse, impose hopelessness or whatever, there is still this quiet spot, the essence of the spirit at the innermost, where you may truly mirror your true nature and live from there... I am the same bro! More often than not, I will not say anything, like you said, if it's going to hurt.. and sometimes the truth does need to be said anyway. If only more people would tell the truth really, but I cannot see it happening.. lies are all around us, even in our own very texts that contain so called 'truths'. Its quite funny really because I see guys on nights out saying all kinds of BS just to get the girl back for whatever ;p... but then I do always think, well what if they got into a relationship with the girl? Surely they would be screwed, or have to find out ways to back up the lie. There are so many examples out there of where lies are just dumb. Another thing people need to think about is backtrack over some lies they have told and think of those, how many were found out? Questioning seems to be the deal breaker for lies, you either have to be a master BSer, or just crumble over the stupidity of it. |

I would rather hear the uncomfortable but honest truth than a gentle, comfortable lie. Also, I think a part of being an adult is looking at things to find the truth. It may hurt, be embarrassing, painful, but in the long run, cutting the fat offers more clarity and self-awareness. (I'm not advocating self-cruelty or beating yourself up. Mass media and miserable people will be only too happy to tell you how stupid, imperfect and how big a loser you are. Messing up and making mistakes is a sign that you are human.) |
