Quoting: Anonymous Coward 28256524 It's the clerks (who I once read can make 100K/yr) who are striking, but "...Perhaps even more significant than the picket line was that the longshore union that loads and unloads ships at port was honoring it and refusing to work at the terminal..." [link to www.latimes.com] A picket line has shut down the APM Terminal at the Port of Los Angeles, shown above. The International Longshore and Warehouse Union's Local 63 Office Clerical Unit, which handles paperwork involved in the loading and unloading of vessels at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, is trying to prevent the outsourcing of its jobs. It would be naive to trust the good will and understanding of those who could make more profit by exploiting us. Historically the labor movement has been essential in creating better and safer working conditions for all of us, establishing minimum wages, and providing safeguards against predatory employers resorting to child labor or requiring contracts that practically amount to slavery (e.g. work 10 hours a day for 7 days a week with no annual vacation, health care or sick leaves). Treat your workers right and you won't have trouble with the unions. |

Treat your workers right and you won't have trouble with the unions. Marxist much? The unions in America are part of a cabal to utterly destroy the foundational principles of the American constitutional republic and replace it with a Marxist dictatorship. Their plan, already announced, is to bankrupt the nation and control the revolution that ensues. So far they have been successful and soon will get the power they crave so much. As such they are enemies of the few patriots left in this country. Unions have nothing to do with workers rights these days, at least in this country. It's primarily about power. They enslave their members, many of whom are actually forced to pay union dues against their will. All that will remain after the mass riots will be burnt out buildings and what's left of the populace...think who would be left after such an event... The most blood thirsty, ruthless gang bangers imaginable... Those that remained alive because the preyed off those weaker than themselves... Burning, raping, murdering, and looting will be their life blood. It is all they know and all they will ever know. |

The small band of strikers that has effectively shut down the nation's busiest shipping complex forced two huge cargo ships to head for other ports Thursday and kept at least three others away, hobbling an economic powerhouse in Southern California.
