Anonymous Coward User ID: 3237752 United States 11/28/2012 05:39 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I live right on/off A1A in Northern Florida and have seen Zero changes - No flooding. Quoting: TheyCallMe"GOOGLE" 1508995 Now, after that storm at the beginning of the summer (was it Amelia? I can't recall, sorry) we did have AWFUL Flooding and it was so profound I posted pics of it on Fbook. We even 'surfed the tube' in my CAR & I have a great photo of it -- with the wave going over the top of the roof of my Eos! But during and after Sandy....Nothing. We were busy praying for NY, NJ and all our friends up North, on the Northern Atlantic Coastline. Those pics of Ft. Lauderdale ARE disturbing, and I truly hope & pray that we don't have to deal with that here, but at this time, all of our beaches/coastline are the same as always. No flooding, no encroaching, no unusual erosion. I live in area in question and drive it daily, has nothing to do with anything other than the City of Fort Lauderdale failing to properly maintain its beaches and dunes (of which there are now none). End of story, nothing to see here other than corrupt bloated local bureaucracy full of fat and happy do nothings. Global warming / climate change my white tan lined butt. |

THe beach was somewhat shorter there, so it got affected easier.. I went from 3 miles south and then up to another 3 miles north and I'm telling you guys, the beach is affected EVERYWHERE. The news stories are bullshit and failing to mention this. In some areas, yes, the water is FAR from the roads still, however, the beach itself is at least 50 to 100 feet shorter.. Something is up. There has been no storms, no severely windy weather like they claim. People are so fucking ignorant, making excuses, talking about how to use "preventative planning" for when this happens in the future, etc.. What they AREN'T talking about is that it hasn't stopped! Tis isn't a matter of erosion simply decreasing the beach. It's clearly a matter of the water itself rising, moving farther inland and obviously, yes, decreasing the beach area naturally. I honestly think people are in for a big surprise if they think this can be dredged, or that sand can be added, etc.. The high water is here to stay in my opinion and it's only going to increase by the day. Add how New York was flooded (record floods) and large sections of New Jersey are sealed from the public due to "Sandies Aftermath". This might be across the entire east coast! Could Sandy have been artificially augmented (or even created) to masquerade, among other purposes, what was already becoming noticeable in terms of rising sea levels along selected coastlines? What a convenient, readily available excuse for this influx of sea water? And with an already destroyed (in select areas) ocean front, the coming change wouldn't be so glaringly obvious? Anonymous Coward User ID: 1550123 United States 11/28/2012 05:51 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Two main factors contributed to observed sea level rise. The first is thermal expansion: as ocean water warms, it expands. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 12354799 The second is from the contribution of land-based ice due to increased melting Between 1870 and 2004, Global average sea levels rose 17 cm From 1950 to 2009, measurements show an average annual rise in sea level of 1.7 ± 0.3 mm with satellite data showing a rise of 3.3 ± 0.4 mm from 1993 to 2009, a faster rate of increase than originally estimated. I don't have a clue as to the WHY of it. :-) I just know that it IS. Scares the hell out of me. Here we've all been waiting for something to happen...and now it is, and I'm a little bit freaked out that maybe all of us have been right...None of us knew what, or when, or how, but we all knew something was coming...This is just part of it, I fear. |

The roads by the beaches are flooded and now they have to make A1A a one way street. Scary stuff. Quoting: Kittywitch [link to www.local10.com] I love this quote from this story: "I don't know what they are going to do about it, but it's gotten worse every day since Sandy," said Andrea Williams. I don't know who "they" is but I'm pretty sure "they" can do nothing if the ocean is swelling of the level is rising. People are fucking oblivious. Yeah they are. In NJ, there's a place where the ocean made an inlet into the bay. It was like that before people started overbuilding on the barrier island. Now they're trying to push the ocean back. Good luck on that. "When tyrants tremble in their fear, and hear their death knell ringing, When friends rejoice both far and near, how can I keep from singing" page7 |
