Powerball selling 100,000 tickets per minute!!!
Half-billion dollar jackpot generating unprecedented sales

MUSL also expects to award $70 million in non-jackpot cash prizes Wednesday

Player enthusiasm nationwide for Wednesday night's Powerball jackpot, the largest in Powerball history, has resulted in record sales leading to an increase today in the estimated jackpot amount to $500 million — currently the largest in the world, and the second largest jackpot in U.S. lottery history.

Besides the jackpot, Powerball is expected to award nearly $70 million in cash prizes from Wednesday's draw.

"Nationally, Powerball is selling at an average rate of 105,000 tickets per minute," said Chuck Strutt, Director of the Multi-State Lottery Association. And, we expect sales to remain strong until game close for Wednesday night's drawing."

powerball tickets do not cost $1.

They cost $2 for one ticket. The prices went up sometime in the past year.


I do not play regularly, as I feel that is not mathematically in my best interest. However, a $2 outlay, for a chance at approximately $150 million cash (assuming only 1 jackpot winner, lump sum, after taxes) is worth it, IMNTBHO.

Odds are 1 in 175 million, doesn't make a difference if machine picks or you pick. I just watched a little segment on it on nightline. Odds increase if you buy a lot more tickets, but not by as much as would make that much of difference. Lump sum would be about 320 million (est).

The math guy on the Nightline segment, took the 58 balls and divided by 5 to get the odds (somehow, I'm not clear on the math) but I could see how all the numbers could get used. Ah hell, I'm going buy a ticket tomorrow!!!

So not one of you three would spend $6 on a rare occasion like this for a chance to win $500 million? Unless you're homeless, I can't see a few dollars/euros making that big of a difference in your life. As improbable as it is that you will win, someone has to win. But I'm guessing your posts have little to do with the actual math behind winning the lottery and more to do with the fact that you're all really insecure about yourselves and feel the need to come off as intellectually superior to boost your fragile egos.

Lol at all the people scoffing at those who buy a lottery ticket. Yeah of course there are dumbshits out there who spend 50$ a month on it but there are many more people who just buy one occasionally. I play maybe 5-6 times a year when I am at the register and have a few crumpled singles or too much change in my pocket. Will I win? Almost certainly not. If I did would I be stoked? Fuck yah.

Can you imagine how many tomato plants I could buy with that cash? Hell I could have a doom detecting robot to automatically bring them into the bunker!
