Re: Climbing Trees Does NOT Keep You Safe From Black Bears
I remember when I went skiing for the first time out West (Whistler, British Colombia, Canada.) Amazing skiing, amazing trails and conditions, and even more amazing nightlife and walking village!!!

But, I was talking with a Ski Patrol on a gondola ride, and he was telling me to be wary of Black Bears (after I told him I prefer the trees; i.e.- "Glade skiing" or "Out of Bounds" skiing.)
If you encounter a Black Bear:
You can not climb up a tree, they can climb up and get you...

You can not try to outrun the bear, they can run up to 30mph, and they can also run downhill. If you try to "zig-zag" it will not confuse the bear, you will just get caught more quickly...

You can not "play dead." The bear will maul you anyway, and make you "for real dead"...

Your only hope is to scare the bear away, or fight it off.

He recommended taking off my skiis, and holding them in my arms and clacking them above my heads and screaming and shouting like a madman, alternating high pitch and deep booming growls.

Made me take notice!!

That's why bears suck - they're so unpredictable and unreadable. That could have gone very very bad. I don't know if they are stupid or smart for handling it the way they did.

That's what happens when animals are used to humans being around, they aren't afraid of them.. Black Bear are known for hitting the road way before you even know they are there.

Aren't black bears a protected species?

Anyway, those two should leave them alone. Bears have a right to live same as people.

Since we have Black Bears and Grizzly in Alberta, Canada. We were always taught to try to scare the shit out of the black bears with extreme noise and movement.

But with the Grizzly, climb a tree...no noise will scare these brutes away..

Just a shot in the ground would have probably scared them away.

Don't like loud noise. Had a big guy try to break into my house through window screen (he smelled food in kitchen) so I just grabbed two pot lids & banged them together. He ran.

There have been many break-ins in my area during summers when windows are open. And they make a mess of a kitchen if they get in. Silly, ol' bears!

Meh something isn't right in that video. Bear have an excellent sense of smell and those bow hunters sure as hell smelled like people. My guess is they had sprayed anise or bacon grease on the tree or their stands, which masked their scent. The barrel you see is a bait barrel used to bait the bear into the area.

You just watched the "rednecks" the liberals idiots on this site make fun off. They were cool as cucumbers in the face of danger. They never even budged, just sat there with a 300 pound bear in the tree with them. My family is just like these guys.

Not a liberal northeastern or California pussy on here could have sat there. Just remember this vid pussy liberals, next time you think you are superior to any redneck anywhere anytime. When all hell breaks loose in the cities and you want to flee the hell you voted for and put in the White House, think twice about bugging out to good ole boy territory. You had better come bringing gifts, mofos.

Re: Climbing Trees Does NOT Keep You Safe From Black Bears
What is really bothering me about the black bear and the raccoon we have had here today, is their lack of concern for us.

When my son stepped out side the bear was rear end sitting beside him. My son opened the door where it was and did not see it.
When he shut the door and was talking to his father up at the other level of the house, he looked over to his right and the bear just sitting beside him like a massive dog.
The bear did not run it did not have any concern for him at all it just sit beside him like a dog.

The bear was coming up to us and sitting around us like a pet. It is not a pet it is wild.

We had the same thing out of that raccoon. The thing had come into the through the cats door. Then it went and was sitting behind a roll top desk in the den where my son sits.

It came out from behind the desk and was sitting on a table beside it that holds a urn.
It then went off it like our cat does straight over to the Sectional sofa corner table across it under the lamp.
Then down onto the sofa and off the sofa to the coffee table beside the cat.

My son went to get it to go out with a broom and it would not budge or fight him not even cringe. My son should not have done it but he reached out to shoo it with his hand push it to go out side.
It would not budge just sit there like no I do not want to leave I like it here.
Then my son went to pick the thing up to put it out side and it was going to let him pick it up.

That was when my son knew things were really abnormal.
They have no fear of humans.
They do not even have that instinct that they are not apart of our household or territory.

I have seen this one time out of a raccoon and it was during a rabies outbreak and the thing was sick and emaciated. It could not even walk straight or far with out staggering and falling.

This is not right this is not normal.
We have had in the last almost two months.
A fox the cops killed here in the yards even as injured as that fox was it made it up hill our of its way to our yard and shrubs to be shot by the police here.
We have had a bird come right in here through a low to ground cat door and help its self to my kitchen.
We have had two strange cats and act like they have know us all their life even born here.
A raccoon and a bear.

Where is their sense of out of their place?
Their sense of fear for adult humans even in confined unknown space like our house?

Where is their defense to us trying to push them with a broom and move against them to push them away and out?

This is abnormal.

I've had to scare off black bears before. Just act vicious, put your arms up in the air, and yell "RAWWWRRRR!!!" as loud as you can while you step toward them. Generally, even a boar will turn tail and run. However, if you do that with a sow (with cubs), you may actually provoke an attack. It's best to not make ANY aggressive move on a sow with cubs.

They are much like human bitches, and will ruin your day!

Probably cousins.

Jk

I live in bear country and have had a 400 lbs black bear stroll across my path like it was out for a Sunday morning walk to church... unnerving if you're not use to it.

I got a photo of it if ya want to see it?
