For years, the United States and its Middle East allies were challenged by the rising might of the so-called Shiite crescent, a political and ideological alliance backed by Iran that linked regional actors deeply hostile to Israel and the West.

But uprising, wars and economics have altered the landscape of the region, paving the way for a new axis to emerge, one led by a Sunni Muslim alliance of Egypt, Qatar and Turkey. That triumvirate played a leading role in helping end the eight-day conflict between Israel and Gaza, in large part by embracing Hamas and luring it further away from the Iran-Syria-Hezbollah fold, offering diplomatic clout and promises of hefty aid.

Hezbollah’s current array of rockets surpasses in size and sophistication its arsenal of 2006, when the longest range system in its possession was the Zelzal-2, an Iranian 610mm unguided rocket carrying a 600-kilogram warhead with a reach of some 210 kilometers. The Zelzal-2 was not fired in the 2006 war; the largest rocket launched during that conflict was the Syrian-manufactured B302.

Hezbollah reportedly has been trained on the Scud short-range ballistic missile, although there are mixed reports on whether any have been transferred into Lebanon. Other than the Scud, Hezbollah is believed to have acquired the M600, a guided missile manufactured by Syria and based on Iran’s Fateh A-110. The M600 is thought to have a 500-kilogram warhead, a range of 240 kilometers and an ability to strike within 100 to 500 meters of its target.

Unusually for the secretive Syrian military, televised exercises were held in December 2011 and July 2012 to show off Syria’s missile capabilities, including anti-ship, anti-aircraft and surface-to-surface systems. The purpose appears to have been to warn the international community of the risks of a foreign military intervention on behalf of the Syrian opposition.

Of particular interest in the Hezbollah-Israel context was the first public unveiling of the M600, identified by the Syrians as the “Tishreen.” Also shown was the “Maysalun,” the Syrian-engineered version of the Iranian Zelzal-2.

Every day there are "terrorists" killed, Al Qaeda operatives captured, and civilians killed by nefarious characters acting against the state. It's not that the Syrian government has an alternative version of events, it's that the claims made by the government and the ones made by the opposition are so far apart that it's often hard to even determine whether they are referencing the same events.

This said, we pay particular attention when the two narratives align. Al Jazeera's Rula Amin now says that both the government and the opposition are preparing for the "Battle for Damascus."

The government has claimed that the armed opposition has begun recruiting between 20 and 30,000 fighters for a possible operation in Damascus. Our correspondent said so far, the opposition has not denied the government's claim.

Until now, opposition fighters had embarked on "hit-and-run style" attacks in the capital, but if the reports of additional forces are true, Amin said that tactic could quickly change.

The president of Lebanon was on TV crying. Literally. He was crying, begging the world for assistance because the IAF was ruthlessly and efficiently destroying all the infrastructure in Lebanon. You'll notice he didn't ask Hizbullah to help. You can paste in all the numbers you want about rockets, it's not gonna change a thing.

Its simple really, the strong winds in the are blew the hat of one of the Israeli soldiers head. They crossed the fence to retrieve it, but just as they reached down to pick it up, the wind blew it a little further away. Pretty soon there were 11 soldiers chasing this hat. Once the hat was retrieved they all returned peacefully to their side of the fence.

The Lebanese army and the UN personnel in the area survived the Zionist assault on their homeland.

Only a matter of time until the shot that starts all out regional was is fired.
