40 YEARS AGO TODAY... PONG was born on Atari.. Now a $65 billion a year industry..
Now here's an anniversary to make you feel old. Pong is 40 this week.

The classic video game, one of the first to reach mainstream popularity, was officially released on November 29, 1972 - 40 years ago this Thursday.
The two-dimensional table tennis simulator, the first release by Atari, is credited with being one of the progenitors of the video games industry, which is now worth a phenomenal $65billion a year.

Pong was not the beginning. Atari ripped off the game from the Magnavox Oddysey.

This is like saying that smarmy little jew Fuckerberg invented Facebook when in reality he stole it from the Winkelvoss twins.

The Telstar arcade was the first one I ever saw. About 1976. It had a good Boot Hill ripoff on it.

Pong was a piece of shit. I don't ever remember even seeing an arcade version when I was a kid. It was Space Invaders that really got the video game ball rolling.

Fair point.. But how many people had a Magnavox Oddysey..?
Think Atari really got gaming into the main stream worldwide..
As much as I hate Fuckerberg anyone with the name Winklevoss deserves to be ripped off!

Who knows what would have happened if Atari didn't rip them off. We'd have probably all been playing Pac Man on the Oddysey 3 in 1983.
