Iran’s Nuclear Bomb Diagram Stolen by Mossad Hack

A highly-placed Israeli source says that the diagram was stolen by the Mossad from an Iranian computer. The means of the theft were one of the various malware programs Israel has used to infiltrate Iran’s computer network. Though Stuxnet is the most famous of these programs, it’s unlikely it was used for this job. Duqu, another in the Stuxnet-Flame series of kissing cousin malware, is just the ticket. It was discovered in 2011, but was active as early as 2008 and possibly even 2007.

An independent source confirmed, in the article, that the diagram was the same one supplied by an unspecified intelligence agency (ahem, the Mossad) to the IAEA last year. This provides corroboration of the fact that the Mossad is supplying the IAEA with much of the evidence it uses to evaluate Iran’s nuclear program. While that doesn’t totally invalidate the agency’s work, it certainly warns us to review any of its findings with great care.

The IAEA suspects that Iran has conducted live tests of conventional explosives that could be used to detonate a nuclear weapon at Parchin, a sprawling military base southeast of Tehran. The intelligence summary provided to the AP said data gained from those tests fed the model plotted in the diagram. Iran has repeatedly turned down IAEA requests to visit the site, which the agency fears is undergoing a major cleanup meant to eliminate any traces of such experiments.

The intelligence summary named nuclear scientists Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, Majid Shahriari and Fereidoun Abbasi as key players in developing the computer diagrams, adding that Shahriari and Abbasi were also involved in the Parchin testing.

Iran's state TV is showcasing additions to its Navy including a missile-launching warship around the size of a frigate.

Navy officials watched as the domestically-produced Sina-7, equipped with anti-ship missiles, was launched Wednesday at Bandar Abbas, near the strategic Strait of Hormuz. Two new Iranian-built Ghadir submarines and two repaired hovercrafts were also delivered to the Navy. The TV quoted Navy chief Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari as saying that Iran must possess the "newest technology and top-grade facilities to protect its borders." (AP)
