I had that too. They thought I was a drug addict because I said I was in pain. After two years of getting misdiagnosed and ignored, finally I went to a pain clinic and the doctor there saw immediately that there was something actually wrong with me and sent me for the right tests..turns out it was cancer.

The unfortunate thing about UK general practitioners is that they are over-worked and they have to be jacks of all trades. Since about 90% of all of their patients present with trivial and similar complaints (colds etc) they tend to go down the route of "most likely cause".
Around about 90% of the time they are correct but that means 10% they are not.
For me and my family this doesn't present a problem as being medically trained myself I can usually steer the GP in the correct direction. However for the vast majority of people they tend to accept what they're told.

Best thing I can suggest is that if you're not happy with a GP's or any doctor's diagnosis or treatment, get a second opinion. And a third if necessary. And keep on pushing.

They are called practitioners because they are still practicing.

My father has been prescribed medications before by doctors only to have the pharmacist insist he not take them because the interaction with his other meds could give him a heart attack.

my throat closed at 3am a few years back. my dad rushed me to the e.r i got in and when the doctor asked what happened m y dad told him my tonsils were so swollen that i was having trouble breathing. the doctor replied so your here for a sore throat? long story short i had something something only 1 out every 50,000 people get and it was the worst theyve ever seen so doctors from the surrounding hospitals came in to see because it was such a bad case. sorry im ranting but i totally know how you feel.

I did get a false diagnose, and even to this I did got false medicine prescribed. You can imagine! I collapsed!
That was so horrible, because I did get that from a doctor in CZech Republic, who did not like Germans.
But, well, he was old, and as I did got some informations about him, he was a very bad doctor to everyone.
But, hell, why could he still be working like a doc???

People need to make formal complaints for them to be escalated.
The problem is that most people believe what a doctor tells them so don't believe anything's wrong.

My family member has rheumatoid arthritis. She had a big bag of drugs she took about 3 times a day for years. Some experimental I'm sure. On steroids she would gain a ton of weight, then back off again, then back on, then back off. Finally they gave her one drug that was giving her chest pains. Next thing you know, they are recalling the drug because it is giving people heart attacks.

That is when she went cold turkey and dumped all the drugs. She started eating clean and avoids all night-shade plants, which causes pain when you eat them. She only takes tylenol for pain. She walks 3 times a day and is doing better and more active than she has been in years.


I work for a pharmaceutical company.
The fact is, everybody had rather take a pill than to change their diet and exercise. It is profitable.

I was prescribed pain killers for a while and because of them I ended up with one of the most common side effects. But instead of admitting it was a side effect of the medication the doctor told me that it was a sign that my condition was getting worse (he then prescribed something for the side effect).

You should do some research on Bruce Lipton.
He once was part of the pharmaceutical industry and now warns people about the danger on this bilion dollar industry plus he offers some impressive insights on how to tackle the real problems instead of fighting the sympthons...

Ahhh, not so fast. Here in the US(using OP's provided information) that's "classic pill seeking behaviour", or "Dr farming". We SHOULD be able to treat our Medical care with as much concern & attention as we do the purchase of a vehicle, i.e. looking for the best rates(for those without insurance), moving on to another Dr if you don't care for their personality or "Bedside manner" but they label you for that as well. It's not about making you well, it's about making as much money off you as they can.

Here's mine. Several years ago, I was put on high blood pressure meds, because my doctor said I had dangerously high BP. I had never had high blood pressure, it was usually low. I actually took it for a few years, yet my BP remained high. I stopped taking it because it made me lethargic. My BP is now normal. Same doctor put me a proton pump inhibitor. In three years I gained close to THIRTY POUNDS!!!! He kept telling me to exercise more and eat less (I was under 1200 calories/day). I did some research and found out that weight gain is a side effect of PPI's, but since it affects less .04 percent of people taking it, they drug companies don't have to report it as a side effect. I stopped taking, lost the weight in about four months and feel very good.

I've gone back to what I had always done. Take care of my own body.

My mother is a very healthy,and extremely active 75 yr old women with only one problem.She has osteoporosis.Her doctor told her not to take any calcium supplements because he says they cause cancer.And whats worse is she believes everything her doctor says.Uggghh.
My dad is 81 ,active but struggles a bit because of his knees which were made worse with knee replacement surgeries.
He takes medication for gerd and high blood pressure.The high blood pressure meds n
make him so dizzy that he's constantly falling which is not good when you are 81 years old.I'm constantly worried about him.He was experiencing a bit of numbness in his foot so they had him come in to the hospital to have his heart valves cleaned out.Afterwards he felt worse and now the foot that was previously just a little numb is now swollen all the way up to his calf.He also had chest pains after the heart cleaning precedure that he previously didn't have.I feel like I'm going to lose my parents early because these stupid doctors don't know what they are doing.

I agree with you from a US perspective but what I was getting at was seeking professional agreement over a diagnosis or treatment. I didn't mean you should be going around looking for a diagnosis and/or treatment that fits a particular agenda per se.
Generally, via the NHS, the GP you see is down to your location rather than your fiscal means. If you're not happy you can request to move but this can prove problematic, especially in rural areas.

My husband had a DVT from a baketball injury. First of all I had to fight with the doctor to even get him tested. She thought it was a cyst on his knee. 2 weeks before, he was playing basketball and got injured. Big bruise on his calf. 2 weeks later his leg swole up, was tight and red. After fighting with her for a while I said this. If your right what is it you have to loose by getting him tested? If your wrong, like might gut tells me then I have will loose my husband. If your right, I will give you a great big apology. Then she wrote the order.

When he went in to the hospital for ultrasound and they saw part of the DVT. The tech couldn't visualize all of it and she thought that it was moving. The tech wouldn't let him move at all and literally ran him to the ED.

Then they wanted to treat him and street him. Give him low molecular weight heprin shots to give to himself.

The doctor was busy and you could tell he was overworked. He popped his head in, didn't even walk into the room completely and said we'll get you home tonight and walked right out.

I told the nurse my concerns and asked her if there was another alternative. Got to love nurses. She said that since he hurt his muscle a couple of weeks ago she could call a consult. She did.

This guy was busy and walked into the room and looked at my husband, didn't look at his leg, and said he was fine. I asked him if he had actually looked at the ultrasound report and if so could he anwser me this question. Was the clot deep or superficial? He said he couldn't remember and he would go check. 2 minutes later the nurse came into the room and started him an a heprin drip. He spent the next week in the hospital.

No, we never went back to that original doctor. I only knew to ask those question because of the classes I was taking in college. How many other people did they treat and they went home to die?

Last year I had to visit a couple of doctors,they were no help and both times they gave me a scrip for meds I had listed as be allergic and if I had not paid attention I would be dead now.

I stay away from doctors and hospitals as much as I can.

The medical industry has no cures for any chronic disease that includes cancer, heart disease and diabetes.

Just pain pills.

Most chronic disease is just nutritional deficiencies brought on by poor diet.

This I agree with for the most part. My cancer was more due to poising from the environment (household chemicals, etcetera), but the source of my diet probably wasn't helping much either at the time.

I'm sure the medical industry does save lives, but they also ruin just as many with poisoning by over medication and misdiagnosing. I hate that the place we're "supposed" to go to when we're ill is the one place most likely to kill us.

Actually, most cancers are caused by chronic vitamin D deficiency. It's a potent cancer fighter. My friend is dying in a hospital, getting again a chemo after being radiated and fooded with morphium, so, what can he do?

My nephew works in an ER. Recently a former patient won a 80 million dollar lawsuit against 3 Dr. and hospital who misdiagnosed a heart attack. The woman was left overnight and in the morning her husband called in his own cardiologist who recognized the heart attack in progress. He testified against the 3 Drs. at the trial. I'm still trying to find out if they were fired.

I was put on antipsychotics to deal with insomnia and "depression" I was experiencing during a particularly difficult time in my life.

I had an adverse reaction to the flu vaccine when I was five and got Guillan Barre. I'm not out for a money or a lawsuit or anything, I'd just like a simple "Yeah, we fucked up. You probably shouldn't get another flu vaccine, ever." but we know that will never happen.

Just had hernia surgery....went well but while they were putting me under they clipped the inside of my jaw....scrapping about 4cm of tissue to the BONE.....you can look at it and see a wound to the bone.

I go for my 7 day revisit and ask the surgeon to look in my mouth and see if I'm crazy but is that my jaw bone there.....NO...YOUR FINE.....just give it a few days.

10 days later when it was aching beyond belief I went to my "family" dr. He looked and said well maybe it is a canker sore. I looked right at him and asked him if he was looking at the correct spot......asked him "Do you think I am that stupid?" "I can look and see myself it is exposed bone."

His last word was go see an oral surgeon if I think his "opinion" is wrong. Asshole!

So yesterday I did and he (oral surgeon) says he see this a few times a year where the anesthesiologist clips the gum. However he said there isn't a thing that can be done about it because the skin is so thin there. Says not to worry it will heal.....however it will take at least 2-3 months!!

2-3 months!!! I can't swallow without pain.....eating anything solid is out of the question......2-3 months!!

I'm so pissed I got jerked around by the "medical doctors" all BSing me and say they see nothing wrong when then knew damn well what was going on.

It drives me nuts how medical professionals continue to offer vaccines to people even if they have a documented history of severe reaction to the things.
