Are you fearfull? I'm not. you did not witness two sunsets, you witnessed either sunlight peaking thru a nearby hole in the clouds, or a sun dog. I hope by Northeast a few weeks ago, you mean you live in the Northeast and did not observe sunsets in the North east, the sun never sets in the north east.
