It is my understanding that most insurance companies DO NOT provide flood insurance...I have been known to be wrong before, of course, but...if the people in the area did not have flood insurance, their houses WILL NOT be repaired by the insurance company, no matter who their insurance carrier is.

It is in natural disasters that our government ought to step in, IMHO. No local government should have the ability to fine these people...Period.

If you have that much extra falling out of your pocket, BRIEF, maybe you oughtta pick a family affected by the devastation and give them a donation instead of being so cold hearted today?

Flood insurance is optional, and not available in many areas, so you have to ask...I have it as well as EQ insurance, which is also an option and most don't have it...

As far as giving, I'm selective...they chose to live in an area where this was a possibility...just like with Katrina, um hello, the city is below sea level!

Yeah, flood insurance is optional, but the average joe or jane can't afford the extra premium. I know I can't. If my home ever floods, I am screwed. :-) Thank God, I'm in OHIO.

And yeah, they chose to live there, but really, who prepares for and expects disaster? We think about the possibilities, and most of us are naive enough to live our lives thinking, "it won't happen to me."

Have a heart, babe. Dig deep and find your compassion. I know it's there. :-)

Any one of us can be struck with any kind of disaster at anytime. We're not all pathetic dumb asses if one happens to us. Ya know? We gotta just live and hope for the best.

A person/family should plan on having an emergency once every ten years that will cost them 10K or more, so if you aren't saving at least a thousand bucks a year you are putting yourself and your family at great risk...so yeah, plan now because shit will happen.
 Quoting: BRIEF

You're right. It's logical. We should put money aside, but sometimes...just sometimes shit happens. I'll be lucky to catch up at the moment...drowning in my own personal disaster, atm. Should have, would have, could have...

Not that I'm whining or complaining. :-) The only thing to do, is the best we can. :-)

You know I love ya, BRIEF. :-) Not everyone is as fortunate as you. These poor people lost it all. My heart goes out to them.

In my opinion, those people on the east coast have suffered enough. People don't DESERVE to be punished for wanting to live on the coast, for dreaming, for being naive, for hoping.

I'm a romantic, I know...so, call me some kind of tard and get it over with. :-)

Optimitard or Romantitard or lol, something. :-)
