the precedent came from the Anglican church

some parishes won't even consider a woman as a priest, others love them

fwiw, when she graduated from Seminary, one of her first jobs was with a famous Park Ave NYC high episcopal church, and nearly ALL of the clergy and assistants were flaming flaming gay

in fact, there seem to be many more gay clergy in the Episcopal church than women, and last I heard that was the next big hurdle for them: the ordination of openly gay and "transexual" clergy

yes, "transexual", which always leaves me asking WTF?

But in case you missed it, the Anglicans and Episcopalians are the most liberal/progressive/PC sects out there, outside of Unitarians

Me, I can't stand most Episcopalians, I think they're annoyingly self-righteously PC and too preoccupied with playing to social trends, but then again I tend to hate ALL organized religion, but that said, this trend towards women in high places is nothing new
