Next time they ask say Why do you ask stupid questions! Info mining at it's best and most sheeple will actually answer honestly. You are correct cashless is their next step to global currency.  I would just politely decline to answer. You're right, it is data mining, but you also don't want to get worked up because that will give them valuable information too. The cashiers have probably been told to gauge reactions too.
