I've dealt with addiction of family members. The one who went to AA is doing great. The one who thinks she's above is not. The fact that they tell you you aren't in control just exacerbates the already inherent weakness in the addict. Quoting: yankeemofo You're an idiot. No one is in control of anyone aside for themselves and even then most people are lost, battered, soulless, wandering sheep. The princoples in AA are thousands of years old and they work based on honesty and spirituality. That's why only the first step mentions alcohol. Alcohol and drugs are not the problem, they were a temporary solution. The problem lies in ourselves. AA has very little to do with alcohol, you will learn that if you get honest and seak conscious contact with God as you understand him. |

He will tell everyone his sobriety and serenity is a gift for having God in his life and for working with other AA's. He'll probably give that chip to the newcomer. :-) Gotta run. AA is a place where I've found that I can go and talk about how I feel and also get insight into others ad how they feel(nobody judges becuse they all have worse problems they're dealing with). It's really healing. My father in law who is very spiritual and emotional came to a few meetings with me and has picked up the big book as his new spiritual helper. It's amazing what you can learn from junkies and recovering addicts. I like going to a group that has a lot of Native presence(Indians for you Americans) because their understanding of the world is so uplifting. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 27754979 good luck and congrats op! take in all the suggestions but do them in your own time! do not let anyone rush you through the steps, take in what your sponsor suggests, but also be as honest as you can if you disagree with them, especially about the whole speed of the matter ... it is about keeping sober one day at a time, therefore do not listen to anyone who says you need to do the steps in any given time ... you take it slow, keep it in the day and listen to your heart, much love and luck to you! |
