Red Sky In South Puget Sound Region With Pics
The details. Cloudy with a slight breeze and misty. taken about 4:00 PST. The sky was a dull almost foggy red for about 45 minutes. I say foggy, because it was like a texture of color, and not just a color. There seemed to be three layers to it all. The lower grey clouds moving with the wind, the redness then the full cloud layer. I'm not a much of a nut job, just noticed the late afternoon Seattle area sky looked odd.

I have 4 good pics. Anyone know how to properly link the images via Imgur?
[EDIT] Took me a few, but figured it out.

I didn't seem at all like the average cloudy and red Winter Pacific northwest sunset. I'm not dumb. I'm also not saying it's not the sun set. Just caught my eye and some neighbors as looking odd.

I'm also in Oregon an d the sky looked a strange color to me as well. It was just for a minute when the Sun back to the cloud towards the sunset. I live in Eugene and I looked over towards where you can see the mountains on a clear day and I could see them almost but they look to be glowing orange kind of freaked me out . Ah well ces't la vie....

I posted the links to the 4 pictures in an EDIT. This was 360 degrees. The sunset just makes some of the sky red, normally.

You've never seen a sunset until you've witnessed a Maine sunset

The fact that we have more cloudy days/rainy days than Washington state make them all the more special

Your right. But I thought red summed it up and rounded it off well. The deep grey almost purple is common this time of year, in the Pacific Northwest.

One of the reasons it caught my eye, was it was the same in a 360 degree filed of view. Not just in one area of the sky, like the average cloudy Northwest sunset.

I have been noticing this hue since last year. When we had snow last January, I posted a thread that the snow on the ground had a pinkish color to it, more noticeable at night.

During the massive freezing storm everything did look pinkish. We also had about 8 inches of snow in the south sound. The first night I remember look out about 2am, and thinking, wow, it looks like a Disney cartoon. It was SILENT out as well. Weird for being in the city. I mean, dead silent. I went outside about 5am, and walked around. Ended up clapping, and it echoed around the whole block. then dogs started to bark. Normally I could go out and clap at that time, and someone just at the other end of the yard wouldn't really notice, for all the ambient city sounds.

There were others that corroborated my observations. Some guy from Olympia attached pics. depicting what we were all seeing. Something else in the heavens projecting infrared light? Side note: my eyes are constantly burning, especially after being outdoors during daylight for extended periods of time. They feel mildly UV burned quite often. My 2cts.

UseLess RepEATER,
I don't get out much during the day. I work in the middle of a huge warehouse and have 3rd tour of 4:30pm to 1:30am.
But I have and many others have noticed it's easy to catch a sunburn all year around, if it's sunny out. Noticed this being in about 2005 or 2006. As a kid, I remember being out in the sun all day, and no burns. I've always lived in the Pacific Northwest.

I experienced the same thing, and I'm on South Hill. It was if the air itself was colored. It wasn't the sunset because I looked in that area and the sky was gray and cloudy.

If you've ever been close to a tornado, the air itself seems to turn light green, but this was pinkish-orange.

It scared me after I realized it wasn't a sunset, and I even called my husband at work. Glad I'm not the only one who noticed.

I concur. There have been many threads touching on this phenomenon: that the sun is no longer "yellow/orange"; it is now whitish and much brighter than it used to be as I am sure you have noticed.

Oh, Puget Sound is in there. Oddly enough, I've just seen that commercial a few times. Living pretty much in Seattle, one would think this commercial would be played often. Especially this time of year. Then again, I don't watch a lot of live TV. Mostly On Demand and Netflix or Hulu.
