Quoting: Anonymous Coward 26176985 Dachshund Chihuahua Beagle Are the top three, but pit bulls are the most likely to attack, right? Those dogs might be more likely to bite, but when a pitbull attacks, it has been bred to jaw lock and often it ends up killing its victim based on its strength. I seriously doubt many small dogs can kill despite their nipping nature. Pitbulls have viscious instincts and they heads are very muscular and their jaws very strong. |

So sad they have such a stigma... Dont know if this will work but heres our little guy when he was 3months old.. myeyes-myworld.blogspot.com/2012/04/hes-lover-not-fighter.html?m=1 |

This thread just shows the ignorance of people. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 26176985 Thank my dog for helping diagnose cancer in hospitals before you label it a killer. You are welcome for its service haters.... Many dogs can diagnose cancer and other illnesses. Not just pitbulls. And you obviously have not looked into the genetic characteristics of terriers in general. Pitbulls being more dangerous than other terriers based on their size and strength. There is a genetic factor. No one is saying people should kill their pitbulls. Yes, they can be sweet, smart, loyal and very attentive dogs. But they are one of many breeds that can be unpredictable. Many people whose pitbull killed or maimed another person or animal never had any indication that the pitbull would behave that way. I would love to see an honest pitbull owner come on here and admit that the breed is dangerous and should be watched cautiously and not put in situations that might post as dangerous. So far, people who love pitbulls seem to do so blindly. That is a big mistake. |

Their jaws do lock in the sense that they are able to bite and not stop biting even when they are being beaten or shot with bullets. They do not lock in the sense of an actual jaw locking mechanism as if there jaw is frozen. They do however have the tendency to latch on and not stop even when being assaulted themselves. |

Actually, considering I have experience working in pet therapy in healthcare settings, I have to say that you are either lying or the company you are working for is in some part of the country where insurance is not a problem for this breed working in a service field, which I find astonishing. I am not saying this breed should be banned altogether. I just don't think they should be allowed in populated areas, like big cities. I have never heard of a pet therapy or service organization that allowed pitbulls as part of their program considering the liability. But I could be wrong. Hard to believe though. Now, if you rent an apartment in a city, most apartments will not allow you to have pitbulls or pitbull mixes because of insurance problems. |

A bunch of UN-educated morons. Okay, so your pitbull was put through a long line of tests to make it able to qualify as a service dog. So therefore your pitbull is likely a very safe dog. That is certainly very plausible and I won't disagree. No one is saying all pitbulls are dangerous. Just that most are based on genetics. If your dog was able to go through many tests to be accepted into a program, then your dog is likely very safe. And much more than most pitbulls. Just like humans, dogs have personalities and some humans are much more docile than others. No one here is saying all pitbulls are bad. But people need to take into consideration that pitbulls in general cause the most problems with attacks among all breeds of dogs and the problem is getting worse because many people who own pitbulls are generally people who are poor, who do not fix their dogs because they are poor, and the breed is flourishing due to that fact. You can call us morons for mentioning all these things. But you need to use some common sense too. You might have a unique pitbull by its demeanor. That is a possibility. Even so, I still wouldn't trust it too much. |
