I am an animal lover. But I HATE pitbulls. I have been chased by several and got away and had two of my dogs attacked by others. These dogs are very scary.

Pitbulls were bred to not feel pain, which is why once they start attacking it is hard to stop them.

I was at an animal shelter last year and saw a woman volunteer attacked by one and got a huge deep puncture wound in her leg.

Pit bulls are terrible dogs and yes, they can seem nice, but they should never be trusted. Not ever.

There are so many cases of pit bulls killing toddlers/babies and other dogs.

In Houston, TX last year there was a woman whose grandbaby was killed in front of her by her "sweet/never aggressive" pitbull. Her husband came home and saw the baby dead on the floor and the woman incoherent. She wasn't able to talk for days afterwards because of the shock.

These dogs should be outlawed in cities and everywhere in my opinion.

One of the worst things about these dogs is that they are usually kept by poor minorities who have no intention to ever have them fixed, so they keep breeding.

The pitbull problem is getting worse and worse because of this reason.

They need to be outlawed.

Before any questions or accusations fly- he died of Old Age (was nearly 17) and that scary looking Son of a bitch (he was huge) was the sweetest dog in the World. Loved kids, Cats and honestly lobved everyone- You could have robbed my house and a pat on his head would have ensured that he would help you carry my shit to your car- BUT he would have given his life to protect HIS (my) family and me.

I miss him alot. Cant even think about getting another right now (its been several years) but someday I will be ready...

At our neighborhood dog park in a very upscale Austin neighborhood someone brought their pitbull in and it killed a Jack Russel Terrier in front of everyone at the park. Horrific experience for everyone there.

Pitbulls can be both sweet and deadly and they have no business being in public.

I was never afraid of dogs until a lose pitbull went after my Mom's Sheltie and nearly killed her. We were just walking our dogs on their leashes when a pitbull came out of nowhere and attacked her dog. I will never forget it and have been afraid of stray dogs ever since. Awful experience.

Those of you that own or think that pitbulls are safe are kidding yourselves. They cannot be trusted. They have been bred to fight and they have an extremely high pain tolerance which makes them a severe problem.

I am not saying all pitbulls need to be euthanized. But they need to be outlawed in cities. That would be a start.

When I was searching for a new dog and went to the shelters looking for one, the shelter had about 50% pitbulls or pitbull mixes. Why?

Because the kind of people that have pitbulls aren't responsible enough to get their dogs fixed.

And "no kill" shelters are adopting these dogs out to naive people.

Pitbulls are a far more serious problem than people will admit and it is only going to get worse.

Not necessarily. There are many good and attentive people who adopt pitbulls that end up killing babies/toddlers/children or other dogs. The pitbull could have been raised very well from puppyhood to adulthood and seemed very friendly and sweet all throughout until some horrific incidence happens. You here this all the time with pitbull attacks and killings. There are some good dog documentaries out there that explain the difference in pitbull genetics vs. other breeds. Pitbulls were bred to fight and not feel pain. They have a much higher pain and fear tolerance, which makes them dangerous. Plus they have extreme muscle and jaw power. Several characteristics that many other breeds do not possess.

Until you have seen a pitbull attack, you can't say much. I have seen it happen countless time and I turn away anytime I see this breed in public. Even when it is on a leash, it scares the crap out of me.

Sadly, most people don't realize their danger until it is far too late.

After this happened, I heard the woman could not speak for days about the event. She was completely traumatized. And this was the "sweet" family dog that everyone loved.

Don't get me wrong, I love animals. I even hate killing bugs. But this society is crazy for letting pitbulls breed like they do.

And anyone owning a pitbull or pitbull mix should be very cautious about bringing their dog around children or other dogs. Because now you can serve time and or pay very exorbitant fines if your pitbull attacks.

Has anyone here said the dogs aren't loyal or friendly? NO! But they have the capacity to attack when most other breeds will not.

I have a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, English bloodline, mom dog is AKC. Sheba is the biggest baby in the world ! She is 9 1/2 years old, scared of lightening, plays and sleeps with our Abyssinian cat, Thomas. When you come to visit us, Sheba will go on your lap, and kill you with kissses. But, OTOH, Casey our Chocolate Lab will rip your arm off.
