My first time in Atlanta..
So I've flown in from Texas for the Falcons/Saints game; I'm a DIEHARD Falcons fan.. Anyway, so I'm driving down Peachtree St. downtown and while at a stoplight, a police officer just walks up to my door and demands my driver's license (WTF?). Is this standard protocol here or anywhere else? Maybe I'm a little ignorant of the law, but I didn't think you HAD to show ID unless you were suspected of committing a crime or breaking a law.

Downtown Atlanta gets dangerous after dark. Actually, it isn't even that safe during the daytime either.

Please provide more details. Also, you didn't mention if you gave up your 4th amendment rights or not.

I was on Peachtree heading to the Ritz-Carlton. No hookers, I'll leave that to Eugene Robison, lol.

More details, like what? It's pretty cut and dry. The were just walking around and approaching cars asking for ID; it was almost like a checkpoint. My 4th Amendment Rights were not infringed upon and I wasn't even asked anything else. I've just have never been asked for my ID while simply sitting in traffic.

If you were doing nothing wrong and gave him your license, then you were a victim of "unreasonable search and seizure". That would be found in the Bill of Rights between #3 and #5!

Dammit man, come on. You've been on GLP long enough to know!

He probably wasn't used to seeing a white guy in that dangerous neighborhood and was curious as to who you were? Once he found out you were a dumb ass from Texas then he understood and let you go.

My first time in Atlanta...
I was squished in the backseat with a carload of family members. Grandpa, looking for the freeway entrance to get to Decatur after visiting the CocaCola factory. It was like a twilight zone of insanity. I'd never seen that many homeless & raggedy people. I entered into zen type flashback of losing time and space.
Plus, I hadda go potty really, really bad.
Grandpa had lost his directional bearings but insisted he KNEW where he was goin.

Running low on gas we asked for directions and I kid you not, one guy said, "if you give me $10 I will ride wityou and git you there."
I voted to pay him but the other 6 fambly members said no.
We ended up on PEACHTREE!
What a scene. I will never forget it.

At the gas station we had at least 3-4 people asking us for money or if they could wash our windshield and there was NO BATHROOM.

There's more but I just wanted to say that you had a mild experience, in comparison.
