Yes they disarmed Australia, I worked at a police station at the time and used to collect weapons, fill in the forms and render the firearm safe.
They used a big crime, to garner public sympathy to remove repeater rifles from the community. This opportunity to pass more laws that remove the power from the people and put it back with the state, was too good for John Howard to resist, and he grabbed it like it were a goody bag.
I don't think it's a bad idea to remove all the old and dangerous firearms from the community. I personally believe the new system is fair to all. If you want a firearm, get a gun licence, learn how to use it and ensure it's stored correctly. There is no need for a repeater rifle if you are only a sports shooter or a weekend hunter. i do i love to shoot lots of bullets in a safe direction as fast as possible. do i need one ? yes cause if and when SHTF i will need that rifle jus as much as i need air. people tend to act right when a firearm is present. also the olice wont get to my location in a timely manner to protect me so yes i need a rifle that can stop multiple threats also the gun is just a tool if you or anyone thinks that removing guns will stop violence then what about all the wars and murders PRE-GUN? a person who wants to kill will find the tool to do so. people can kill with a knife just as easy with a gun AND when a drunk driver kills someone do you hear about the car being blamed? or the person driving drunk ? the car or gun is just a tool used.
Quoting: Aunty Flo I guess the police don't want anyone to have a weapon that shoots faster than their glock. For fair reason.
