How to get rid of fast food addiction?
I've moved out of home into my own condo in the middle of the city. There are fast food restaurants almost on every block and I just cant seem to control my desire to eat unhealthy fast food.

I've always eaten healthy at home, by force I might add, since my parents wont even dream of touching anything from McDonlands or KFC. As kids I would daydream of going to McDonalds. Once my brother sneaked in some and we had a blast but the nanny discovered the apple pie and fries under our bed and informed my mom who went total nuts on us.

Now that I've turned 18 and moved into my own place I cant seem to get enough of fast food. So far I've tried almost all of them but I fear I've become addicted to KFC. All I can think of every single waking moment is KFC KFC KFC.

I've never had acne before but now I do. I also have dark under eye circles now and am 20 lbs heavier than when I moved out of the house.

When I'm not sitting my ass down in a fast food restaurant, I'm ordering over the phone or the internet. I just cant stop. I thought of going to professional therapy but my parents would find out. I also turned away the cleaning lady in fear she might discover all these empty boxes here and would tell my mom what I'm upto.

If empty boxes are laying all over the place, you have more problems than just eating too much -- you're also a lazy slob. Throw the empty boxes out for crying out loud. Have some self respect. Go to the grocery store and buy some food, and make it yourself. What the hell is wrong with you??

Haven't had any for 6+ years. Cold turkey is the only way to go, man. You actually go through withdraw for a bit but you're okay after about a month or so of eating good home cooked meals.

Its because the maid does it but now there are like 30 boxes and if she sees them she's gonna tell my mom and I'll have to hear this 3 hour lecture on food and stuff and she'll discover I've gotten fat. That would be like worse then discovering I've gone gay.

Re: How to get rid of fast food addiction?
try looking up some recipes and learn how to cook if you don't already know. watch some youtube videos if you need to or ask your mom to go over the preparation of some of your home meals. cooking can be very enjoyable, even just making a simple meal.

but, pick a few recipes, make a grocery list, purchase groceries, make food. give yourself a treat day that you eat out so you don't feel completely deprived.

you're skin will clear, you'll have more energy, you'll feel satisfied and probably shed those extra pounds without too much trouble. i would add you'd save money, but honestly grocery shopping is expensive now too.

Pretty funny, OP. Doesn't sound like you're ready to be on your own yet. First, throw away the damn boxes. Are you waiting for your mom to haul them out for you?! Second, get a grip. Contemplate this: You are the ruler of your own life. If you really WANT to eat fast food, DO IT!! Right now it sounds like you're rebelling against your parents who wouldn't let you eat it. If you want to, get it out of your system -- gorge on the shit, throw up! Whatever.

When you're ready to man up and live your own life, look at your values. Do you really want to be fat, sick, and full of zits?! Didn't think so.

Read an inspirational book like "Primal Blueprint" or something that will make you crave to eat clean and healthy food. Imagine yourself lean and fit. Picture yourself shoving KFC into your mouth and then having people point and laugh because you're so fat.

If you want a good book on breaking addictions, try "Stand Up!" by Bucky Sinister. He was an alcoholic punk poet, but not even as pitiful as you might be unless you start living your own life! Good luck, OP. You'll be cool when you grow up.

Well I made a big fuss and gave a lengthy speech to my parents on how I could live all on my own now and I'll show them how its done and etc etc. But now that the holidays are here and I have to visit home soon and they'll find me with this double chin. All my relatives would be there, all my cousins, ughhhh! This would be so embarrassing. I rather shoot myself!

Re: How to get rid of fast food addiction?
Best way is to not be able to afford it.

You are 18 and paying your own bills. Create a budget that covers you fixed monthly expenses and includes your gasoline.

Everything else, you put into a Savings Account. Assume you are working. You could ask if your employer has a 401k. If he does, he may give you EXTRA money over what you currently make now if you put some of your money into the 401k. This is a retirement fund that YOU can NOT touch until you are 59 1/2 years old. People your age will NEVER receive any social security, so it will be up to you to save for the future.

If they don't have 401k, then keep the money in savings account until you have at least $2,000. Then you can start investing in a ROTH IRA. Which is another retirement type account for your future.

Allow yourself amount to splurge breakfast, lunch and dinner one day a week.

Good luck.

Well why don't you just consider how disgusting fast food is and how extremely bad it is for you to eat fried chicken on a regular basis. All those Saturated/trans fats.. you're building a ticking time bomb. Learn how to cook for yourself, there's plenty of info on the net to help you with that, and nothing beats fresh, healthy meals that you prepare for yourself, they taste better and are more rewarding. Incorporate some exercise along with that and trust me, the more GOOD you start doing for your body the more you'll become addicted to wanting to keep that up. Which of course is a good thing. =)

You're addicted to the carbs from the crispy fried skin and carbs in whatever else you order. Go low carb and you won't crave them anymore. The problem with carbs is you can eat and eat them, but you never really feel full for long. High fat food that's low in carbs will satisfy you for a longer period and is healthier.

You're right. This food especially KFC makes me feel happy for some reason then after like 2 hours I'm craving it again. Its weird. Its like I'm on a drug. While eating it I feel on top of the world but then I remember what would happen if my mom finds out and then I feel sad and want even more.

Its a vicious cycle!

Re: How to get rid of fast food addiction?
It is not an addiction it is a luxury....

It is so much cheaper and easy and darn well delicious to just drive by the window at KFC and take my boxes of yummy yummy chicken liver home.....we me.....all mine ...mine mine mine.

They are a luxury to me I like them with a biscuit and even some mash potatoes..I like them alone.....I like them and they are what my body craves terribly.

They help my blood they helped me grow back bone....they have been support for my life and body.

Why would I got to the grocery store buy them pack them home use my oil flour and seasoning to crispy fry them....when KFC has them perfectly prepared no mess no time and cheaper than making them at home.

They are even better livers then the store sells.

This is such a luxury to me I have made enough biscuits and liver and chicken even pot pies to know a luxury when I get one.

Saves money time while getting what I would have made my own self only better.

Re: How to get rid of fast food addiction?
this is the truth... and so you probably won't like it...

Fast food addiction is really sugar addiction.

The sugar stimulates the 'reward center' in your brain.

The ONLY way to kick an addiction like this is to replace the stimulus to the reward center.

This is why drug addicts go from one drug to another. We simply have to have that reward center stimulated, or we are not able to function.

There are only two healthy ways to kick it.

1. Fast. Like going cold turkey. But of course... you wont be able to function at all. This is why celebrities go into rehab centers, etc.

2. Replace the chemical stimulation of your reward center with a psychological one. When you stand in a room of peers and they smile and clap and root for you... your reward center is stimulated. This is why AA and those type of things are based on group support.

For most of us... we don't have time to fast. And society is falling apart. If you see a group of people, they will more likely mug you then root for you.

But just to get you started in the right direction... If you are on GLP, that says to me that you are an open minded, truth seeking, individual. My kind of guy. So I'm rooting for you.

Good luck.
