Any Veterans Get Compensation For Hearing Loss?
Just wondering if anyone has hearing loss and tinnitus and got compensation. The VA treats me well and said i have horrible hearing loss and tinnitus ( i knew that), and I have made a claim ( have one for the knee since 1992), and am awaiting the results.

I've been on forums reading about it, but it seems so mixed.. wondering if anyone here has this same issue.

Thanks

Tough to get the VA to do anything useful. Gotta have lots of documentation to show loss occurred in military. Can be hard if you don't have the proof, easy if you do. Moderate hearing loss probably won't land you anything. It's very random though.

do you have major hearing loss and tinnitus?

mine is bad.. i drove boats with a diesel engine at my heels, but couldn't wear ear plugs because i had up to 200 passengers on board.. had to listen out for them, so my hearing sucks, and i am so sick of this screaming in my ears... i get invisible hearing aids in February, but they say it may not mask the tinnitus.

sorry, but VA gives me primary care, travel compensation for any appointment, just got new glasses, getting invisible hearing aids.. etc.

I guess I am lucky, but also, I use the VA reps for my county who file claims for you because they know how to do it.

so you receive 10%?

mine is both ears and 50% hearing loss. I hate this ringing, it never ever ever stops. I forget what it's like to hear clearly.

As I said, I did. I was a pilot in the USAF, and jet engine noise was my enemy. VA gave me no problem what so ever.

has your hearing gotten any worse since you were awarded the compensation? The VA reps work for free in your county and told me to keep refiling every other year no matter what because the condition will only get worse. I went 15 years and didn't refile for my knee because I didn't know I could. So that and the hearing loss/tinnitus is under review.

You can call your local Veterans Affairs Office and they will refile for you to get more compensation. They know how to do the paperwork and work thru the red tape.. all paid for, you don't have to pay for it. You can do it every other year I think. You should give it a shot.

Like I was telling Desert Fox, the VA Rep told me to file, file, file. Keep doing it every other year if symptoms get worse.

They will actually file it for you. You can get new hearing exams to prove it too.

Re: Any Veterans Get Compensation For Hearing Loss?
Compensation? My step-dad was in nam, a gunner and a paratrooper with the 173rd airborne brigade.
He is in early retirement now due to hearing loss and nerve damage (agent orange).

His is nearly deaf, one ear 90 o/o hearing loss and other ear about 68 percent. His disability check is over 3000 dollars per month. He would much rather work, believe me. It took years of filing, appointments, doctors and testing.

I' m not sure if this is the compensation you are inquiring about, it's just how it happened with him. Basically forced into disability.
