Doomsday 2012: NASA Attempts To Soothe Concerns Over Mayan Apocalypse | |

News. David Morrison, an astrobiologist at NASA Ames Research Center, truly feels there is nothing to worry about. Since most scholars believe the Mayans did not view the end of their calendar cycle as seriously bad news, Morrison doesn’t think people should spend too much time worrying about things. “There is no true issue here,” he said at a NASA Google+ Hangout event on Wednesday. “This is just a manufactured fantasy.” Although experts have tried their best to soothe concerns regarding the rumored apocalypse, some people are allowing Doomsday fears to control every aspect of their daily lives. According to NDTV, NASA has even posted information about the event on its website in an effort to keep people from completely freaking out. “The world will not end in 2012. Our planet has been getting along just fine for more than 4 billion years, and credible scientists worldwide know of no threat associated with 2012,” NASA explained. “Just as the calendar you have on your kitchen wall does not cease to exist after December 31, the Mayan calendar does not cease to exist on December 21, 2012.” Morrison explained that, while some people believe these myths are nothing more than a hilarious joke, many folks seem to honestly believe the world is going to end in December. “While this is a joke to some people and a mystery to others, there is a core of people who are truly concerned,” Morrison said, adding that children are being frightened by the large number of rumors they read on the internet.
