Plain White Flour--who knew?
Found this in my email this morning. Anyone know if this really works?

Plain White Flour--who knew?
Once I was cooking some corn and stuck my fork in the boiling
water to see if the corn was ready. I missed and my hand went
into the boiling water....

A friend of mine, who was a Vietnam vet, came into the house, just
as I was screaming, and asked me if I had some plain old flour...I
pulled out a bag and he stuck my hand in it. He said to keep my hand
in the flour for 10 mins. which I did. He said that in Vietnam, this guy
was on fire and in their panic, they threw a bag of flour all over him to
put the fire out...well, it not only put the fire out, but he never even had
a blister!!!!

So, I put my hand in the bag of flour for 10 mins, and then pulled it
out and had not even a red mark or a blister and absolutley NO
PAIN.

Now, I keep a bag of flour in the fridge and every time I burn myself,
I use the flour and never ONCE have I ever had a red spot, a burn or a
blister!

*cold flour feels even better than room temperature flour.
Miracle, if you ask me. Keep a bag of white flour in your fridge and
you will be happy you did. I even burnt my tongue and put the flour
on it for about 10 mins, and the pain was gone and no burn. Try it!

Don't run your burn area under Cold water first, just put it right
into the flour for 10 mins and experience a miracle!
The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is.

Re: Plain White Flour--who knew?
I frequently make my own chicken nuggets. For the coating I use Audry House chicken breading and add in additional spices. The chicken pieces have been coated in 2 beatened eggs to help the coating stick and crisp.

I coat each nugget individually as I place them in the shallow oil in my skillet. As the pan gets full of nuggets, I'm having to nudge them around to make room for additional pieces.

By that point, my fingers are thickly coated with the breading thanks to the eggs. I never feel the heat of the oil as I stick my fingers in to nudge pieces around to make more room.

So ... while I'm not entirely sure if plain flour is the best medically for treating and preventing burns of any degree ... I can see where it could possibly be true based on my above experience when making chicken nuggets.

With any serious burns, I would still follow up with a doctor or hospital visit to make sure there are no unseen/below the surface damage.

Re: Plain White Flour--who knew?
Apple Cider Vinegar works on burns. This I know for a fact.

I have my doubts about flour -- since flour is highly flammable when it is 'dust' in the air, I woudl think that tossing a bag of flour on a guy who's on fire would actually cause a small explosion and *not* put the fire out.

Am not interested in testing it myself though If someone else wants to, be my guest.

FALSE

I think it's important to research new remedies and look for better ways to treat injuries through natural products, but this one struck me as needing a reply.

Look, I've burned myself. Everybody has to one extent or another. It hurts like a MOFO and can scar you for life.

In the medical field, burns are still treated with cool water irrigation. There's a reason for that. It's because there's nothing better!

Please check things out thoroughly before buying into them.... You can save yourself a lot of pain and suffering by stopping the tissue damage immediately with cool water.

I can testify that using organic apple cider vinegar works better than cool water irrigation on FIRST DEGREE BURNS.

No scars, and takes the sting out immediately.

It is also good for sunburns.

Unfortunately, you know where you are at and whom you are associating with ... we will need before and after pics!

Example:

Before ... pic of forearm with no burn

After 1 ... pic of same forearm now with burn
After 2 ... pic of same forearm with burn, now covered in flour
After 3 ... pic of same burned forearm after the flour has been washed away.

Or just video tape the whole experiment. =)

If you are truly going to do this ... stay safe and don't go hogwild on the burn. No need to scar or damage yourself permanently.

I agree with you on that... Though ACV isn't what I go to First if I have a burn (Say, in the kitchen, etc...)

But again, the ACV moisturizes the area as well as the acetic acid helps peel any damage skin naturally by dissolving it or breaking it away from the healing skin, which in turn makes it "Feel better" Very similar to Aloe Vera, but I don't believe the Aloe is acidic. (I need to search that)

FLOUR on the other hand is powder... While it make work to smother a fire (in large amounts) it merely covers a wound and does not allow heat to escape. Furthermore I would imagine that if there IS any burned skin which is still "sizzling" for lack of a better term, it will bond with the skin, similar to Fried Chicken, and later become irritated, dry, scaly etc....

There are many good remedies for burn care. But the BEST remedy I know to stop the tissue damage immediately is cool water.

I just didn't want someone to read this Flour thing and hurt themselves unnecessarily in the future.

Manuka honey is excellent for treating burns as we personally can attest to and no scarring. It can be ordered from amazon.com

[link to www.amazon.com]

The New Zealand Honey Discovery

For centuries honey has been recognised as having beneficial health-giving qualities due largely to an enzyme activity.
Scientific research at New Zealand's University of Waikato discovered that some strains of New Zealand manuka honey contains an extraordinary, naturally present, very stable and more powerful unique antibacterial activity not found in any other variety of honey.
This unique antibacterial activity is a non-peroxide activity and comes from the nectar of the manuka flower - it is quite distinct from the enzyme/peroxide activity that is common to most honeys.
This special non-peroxide antibacterial activity sets Manuka Honey apart as one of nature's true wonderfoods.
But this special unique non-peroxide activity is not in all manuka honey

oh geezus. do not tell people to put honey on burns. I had someone tell me to put honey on my sunburn (which was my face) and that damn honey made it worse --- my face was so swollen from blisters under the skin line that i looked like a goddamned monkey. and then my skin was oozing out blister goo. it was pretty much the most disgusting thing ever.

HONEY and BURNS is a NO NO>

Re: Plain White Flour--who knew?
It depends on the type of honey being used. Manuka works great even on wounds. We put on the horse's wound as well - heals fast.

Earlier in the year coming up the stairs with a pot of scalding hot tea I tripped and it went down my entire front creating 2nd degree burns. Subsequently, I did a lot of reseach on Manuka before ordering it because of not knowing if this would really work on burns. Back then we didn't have any Manuka nor not much else that would help. I've used Manuka on kitchen burns and it works better then anything else.

Not having read of the flour remedy it seemed worthwhile to get others imput as to if this really works.
