How To Deal With A School Teacher Who Is Crazy??

Do as she requests.

Email her back and ask her for step-by-step directions as to doing the assignment.

First send her a reply stating that you know she has a busy schedule and that you are trying to work with her and help your daughter accomplish the assignment. So you do for hers and your busy schedule and e-mail reply as a face to face isn't neccessary.

If she is over worked and frustrated, this will calm her down and let her know you appriciate her hard work. Life is easy for your daughter. Mission accomplished.

If the assignment is really off the wall, she won't really be able to give your instructions. If she does and they don't make sense forward the whole e-mail train to her boss, the principal and just simple ask if they could help you understand this. No, a face to face isn't necessary for this either as your schedule is very busy.

Either way problem solved without anyone being able to discount you as a lazy parent and your childs life is easier.

This is the second time this has happened to me??

In the beginning of school this teacher sent home a 2 page study guide for my daughter to do for homework and the very next day, instead of going over the study guide to correct any answers, the teacher gave her a test on the study guide. My daughter failed it, and it was a Major Grade. I talked to the teacher and asked her why she didn't go over the guide first and then allow the students to take the study guide home to study for the night? She once again jumped at me and threatened to have me come in and talk this matter over with her and the principal.

WTH!!!!

I think I am just going to have my daughter put into another 5th grade class, I don't know how much longer my nerves can take of this???

Ignore. School is not important. Any energy you spend on this communicates to your child that indoctrination camp lessons are important. Encourage your child to learn on her own and blow off school.

Don't put up with it and DON'T back down! I wouldn't!

She's using her position as a teacher (and leveraging the principal) to intimidate you. Which is ridiculous since OBVIOUSLY she is intimidating you because she herself does not *understand* the homework she is handing out to the students.

I say call her bluff and go in to talk the matter over with the principal. Bring copies of all the emails in question and the assignments, too.

Of course after you embarrass her in front of her superior she will have it in for your daughter -- small minds are petty & cruel you know -- so you will still end up having to put your daughter in another class.

Being a parent, the first priority should be your daughter. Ego's and self pride set aside.

I am assuming she goes to a public school.

Ask your self this first.

What is it you want to accomplish?

Will this help your daughter?

After this situation is resolve how is life going to be for my daughter?

What lesson will she learn from this?

Believe it or not school is not that important, education is. There really is a difference.

Is there a life lesson in this situation that will make her life, not your better?

If so go for it, if not, figure out how to accomplish what is better for her.

Living through and learning how to deal with the crazies in life is really important. Sometimes taking a stand is really important and sometimes eating humble pie is a good life lesson.

I teach and that is insane. Go to the principal yourself. By pass this nutcase teacher. Trust me I work w a lot of them. Good luck. If your daughter is unhappy in the class w her as the teacher - switch her if possible. ASAP

op, if you feel threatened by this teacher, be sure that you cc all of your correspondence with her to the principal.

i don't particularly consider it a threat to meet with her and the principal, but then i didn't read the e-mail. if she is giving out ridiculous assignments the principal should know.

i know of a kid whose assignment was "describe the last time you were ashamed of your race" (all white class). the father of the boy wrote the assignment saying that his kid has never been ashamed of his race and no teacher had better start making him feel that way. the father then forwarded the assignment to the principal and the assignment was canceled.

I have dealt with this principal before and she agreed with me about a problem and then the next day she called me and told me I was in the wrong?????

This principal is old and has no backbone. I did e-mail my daughters teacher and took her up on her intimitaing offer. I am going to battle this one!!! All I want is for my daughter to have a fair education, she is an Honor Roll student and all her prior teachers loved her. Just for note, this teacher likes to take her students one by one out into the hallway and intimate them. My daughter told me that her teacher took her into the hallway and accused her of lying and she hurt her feeling!!! WTH!!! My daughter isn't perfect, but I raised her to be honest and she is.

Tell her you got your PERS (public employees retirement system) packet this week too, and are sorry she too has to join the hoardes who have been told about the "shared sacrifice".

Also, that you're sorry if she doesn't have her time in that she can retire by Dec. 31 and keep her full retirement and benefits, but, early retirement is better than none, so maybe she better consider it before she's left with none.

The written word can sound a whole lot nastier then the spoken word with the wrong inflections. Are you sure you interpreted the emotion in her email correctly? Or possibly she misinterpreted yours. Go in and talk to her and the principal and straighten it out.

Call her bluff... Sounds like you are worried about having to attend a meeting wit the Principal? If the teacher isn't doing her job then let her demonstrate that in a meeting with the Principal.

5th grade is only temporary and next year your daughter will have new teacher(s) and perhaps a new school. In the bigger scheme of things, this year is irrelevant.
