Inform her that they may have a no child left behind policy in this country but nobody will remember the teacher if you get another response similar to this again.

Request your daughter be put in another class.

Barring that, there is always duct tape, a pair of pliers, and a blowtorch. That always works.

Dear Ms./Mr. Teacher,

Thank you for your response to my email inquiring what was expected of my daughter regarding her homework.

My daughter and I evidently share the challenges in comprehension, because I fail to understand your reply.

You suggested that I discuss the matter with you and the Principal. Does the Principal assign the homework?

It makes me feel not as challenged, knowing that it requires two of you to explain this, but since I have neither the time nor inclination to come in and speak with either of you regarding something that shouldn't have already taken this much time, it would be appreciated if, after consulting, the two of you could come up with a way to simply explain what is expected on this homework.

Thank you.

You call the principal and set up appointment (forget the teacher). Then threaten the teacher with getting drag in and explain her aggressiveness (forget about the homework assignments). Call the principal everyday and have him explain the homework after he talks to the teacher. Basically throw a wrench into the machine. Make their lives a living hell.

If she threaten you, call her bluff. And say - "Right NOW"! Become the crazy mom from hell.

Be sure to let the principal KNOW that you are watching them and nothing will be taken against your daughter. Tell him this is between you, me and the crazy teacher.

Can you transfer your little girl to a new school? That hurts them in the $$$$$ department.

First of all, I did ask her if I could come in and talk with her after school, she is the one who suggested going to the principal to sort this out? Here is the e-mail I sent her, and here is the one she sent me?? I thought I was being polite?

Jessica came home today with a package that is 6 pages long. The writing on this package cannot be read. She doesn't understand what you want her to do? I am trying to help her, but I can't read it either? On Nov. 12-9:33 PM question is just shows a picture of a house, and underneath is says, " To learn more about the Capitol through time, click on the picture above?" Well, we can't click paper???

I don't know what is going on with this package and what you want her to do, and it's due by tomorrow according to Jess. Can we meet after school and discuss this package? I would like to be there for all 3 of us to try to understand what you want her to do?

Here is the teachers response

Thank you for your inquiry. I totally understand your concern about the assignment. First let me explain the assignment. This is a class activity that each student uses the computer to complete. Each frame represents what the student sees on the computer when they are working at that center. The lines are for them to take their notes and draw their pictures. The frames on the pages are not intended for them to read on their own, simply to prompt them to the computer screen. When on the computer they follow the directions on each page and they can click to view a new screen or short video clip, drag, highlight, etc as they complete each activity. Jessica apparently took it home to work on it is my guess. The class has a week to complete the packet using their computer time. It is a study packet for their upcoming History test. It is intended to be interactive.

I think that it is a good idea to meet with you, me, Dr.?, and Jessica when possible. Please let me know when you would like to meet next week. I will make arrangements with Dr. ?.

I edited the principals name for personnal reasons, but as you can see from these e-mails, she already answered my answered the question, but then all of a sudden got defensive??? Why do we need to see the principal to answer a simple homework question?????

Sorry but I have to chime in and say you must be mentally challenged. I have no idea what I'm looking at and I DO understand the assignment.

Go to the website, follow the prompts, take the notes.

Why is that so difficult to understand?

Obviously you don't "click on a photo." WAKE UP. She's telling you that the images she put on the pages are to help slow people follow along.

Jeez.

Oh, and she probably thinks it's a good idea for you to come in so she can show the principal the assignment and go thru this in front of your boss so the boss realizes it's not her and she's dealing with someone who is unable to comprehend step by step directions.

I am still shaking my head here.

Re: How To Deal With A School Teacher Who Is Crazy??
I don't think you understand what is happening. She is not being defensive. She answered your question and asked you to come in for a parent/teacher consult with the principle.

Most likely the teacher is concerned that your daughter is not remembering the directions. She was obviously instructed that she needed computer time to complete the assignment and your daughter came home and threw her hands up and handed you a print-out.

Maybe this is an ongoing issue with your daughter not following directions. The teacher may feel she is distracted or has other special needs that needs a teacher/principle consult.

Don't read so much into this, you imagined an entire 'tone' to the message that was not there.

I e-mailed my daughters 5th grade teacher this morning because the work my daughter brought home for homework made no sense. I just asked the teacher what it is that she wants my daughter to do for her homework beause she doesn't understand it.

Well, instead of an e-mail back telling me, she e-mails me back threatening to have me come in and discuss this matter with her and the principal!!!!

WTH!! I as a concern parent was only asking her a question?? This teacher even told us to contact her by e-mail if we have any questions or concerns.

What should I do???

What kind of an idiot are you, to feel threatened by a visit to the principal's office.

It sounds to me like you're not smart enough to understand your daughter's assignments, so you're blaming it on the teacher.

It's understandable that your daughter can't figure it out for herself.

I am also shaking my head after reading your email and the teacher's response. I personally thought that your email was somewhat snarky and confrontational whereas the teacher's was polite and professional. I'm also thinking you have acted this way in the past with other teachers and the principal.

I'm all for being your child's advocate but in this instance I fail to understand what your issue is with this teacher...she probably suggested meeting with the principal to illustrate what she has to deal with when it comes to you and your daughter.

So your daughter brought home work she didn't finish at school, that she knew full well was supposed to be done at the computer at school, and you sent the teacher an email saying you didn't understand the homework. She informed you it wasn't homework, and asked you to meet her and the principal. Your daughter is not doing what she is supposed to be doing, and the teacher feels you should be aware. Just go to the darn meeting.

Re: How To Deal With A School Teacher Who Is Crazy??
Email is often misunderstood and teachers get a little paranoid when they read parent emails - usually reading in some insult or complaint even when none is intended. Then again, that is probably because most parents are completely invisible over the course of the year except to bitch. So, do not be confrontational at all. Merely write POLITE and FRIENDLY email and ask a simple question. Changes are, if you reread your email you might see you were a little abrupt.

That aside, it's also my guess that the teacher explained the homework to the kids when it was handed out as is normally the case. Why didn't your daughter ask the teacher herself since it is HER homework? Why were you getting involved at all? You need to watch being a helicopter parent - it does your child no good.

LOL! I just saw this email - missed it at first. What it sounds like to me is that the children were give days to work on it and your daughter didn't even attempt it - what was she doing during that time? I'm sure the teacher explained the project to the kids over and over again, but your daughter obviously wasn't listening or didn't care. Now when it is due, she brings it home (even though she wasn't supposed to) and complains about all this work she has and she doesn't know what to do with it figuring that 1) you will do it for her 2) you will hop on your white horse and save the day by bitching to the teacher and telling her you (and your daughter) are unable to do the work. You will, of course, demand more time "or else" and you will end up supervising her at home and doing most of the work yourself. Your daughter will be happy because she got just what she wanted - her mom to bitch out the teacher AND do her work for her and a decent grade for doing absolutely nothing.

YOU FELL FOR IT! LOLOLOLOLOLOL! Your daughter is manipulating you big time. Let her fail her homework and her test the little squirt. The teacher probably wants a parent conference because your daughter is a lazy little whiner.

Sorry for the delayed reply. Lost track of the thread. Hope it's resolved by now!

I didn't think her email was defensive at all. It looked to me like it was a cya (cover your behind) comment. She probably wanted it clear that she was willing to discuss it and wasn't refusing help. That's just my guess.

It's so hard dealing with things like this but I hope everything worked out for all involved.
