Re: Post if you're lucky to be alive today
I was recently in an accident that, according to EMTS, should have easily killed me.

God bless you OP.

Caught Legionnaires (horrible pneumonia). In ICU for 30 days in a coma. Family was called to rush to hospital cause I wasn't gonna make it. While I was in a coma, I remember a very different reality. I remember nothing of the real hospital visit. Very bizarre. Came out looking like a wet noodle.

Damn, that is bad...I started having aches on a Wednesday and made it through Friday still able to work, but by the weekend I couldn't move...back to work on Monday a little weak but able to run the show...

Re: Post if you're lucky to be alive today
Here's a few:

3 emergency c-sections, deadly infection contracted in a hospital ('c-dif'), 5 kidney stones, emergency gallbladder removal, emergency hysterectomy, being beat up and left for dead by men, being thrown out of a car in Montana at 35 mph, going off the road in icy conditions in Canada (down a mountain), Influenza A contacted from people that were on a cruise ship, plus a few 'minor' ones, such as falling off out of a canoe in Alaska because some assholes in a speed boat sped by me and the wake caused me to tip over into icy water in an open bay.

Not to mention having to prepare for a water landing in a 727-100 (flight attendant) in the Aleutian Islands with 60-kt crosswinds, fuel running low, nighttime, medivacs onboard, compressor stalls, and barely making it to the airport of which an emergency evacuation was performed as the plane WAS, in fact, heavily damaged. I resigned after that one.

After that, a guy cleaning his shutgun in the apartment above me, decided that putting a six-inch hole in my kitchen ceiling was his way of being real Alaskan man. Fortunately, I had just left my apartment with my child minutes before.

To tell you the truth, my glimpse of the other side makes me pause with wonder. I have NO idea why I was forced to continue life here in this body and on this planet other than the sake of my children.

Then again, other people have had it MUCH worse such as my buddies that were in Vietnam and a son that was in Iraq in combat conditions and doing several tours at that. Or my friends I lost in car accidents due to drunk drivers including my best friend in high school.

Insert 'count-your-blessings' here.
