Re: Post if you're lucky to be alive today
I'll go first...
I'm only 24 years old and have come very close to death on 3 occasions.

1: When I was a kid in the scouts, we had a camping trip on an island called Capers Island near Charleston. I think this story is posted somewhere on the net if I'm not mistaken.
It was a very dry spring and some time in the night, the entire island went up in flames. Luckily, a police or wildlife helicopter LANDED in our camp and told us to evacuate before we were consumed in our sleep. We were able to get a ferry out of there. Tragedy averted.

2: When I was 18, I got a motorcycle. I think you can see where this one is going.
Working late, I was riding home in the country at about 2:00am and plowed into the mid-section of a full grown deer. The last time I had looked at my speedo about 15 seconds before, I was going 110 mph. I believe I hit the deer going about 90. Irresponsible...I know.
This was the closest I'd come to death. Twisted pelvis, fractured wrist, and MAJOR road rash. After surviving that, I figured I was done with the near-death experiences for a while. Wrong.

3: About a year ago, I was travelling for work (again) on a 70 mph interstate and it had begun to rain. I was going with traffic next to a semi-truck when my right rear tire blew out to the fucking rim. Before I knew it, my car was diving headlong under the semi I was next to. The last thing I saw was the back tire of the semi getting rapidly closer...then a BANG from the airbag in my face. Since I was dead set on getting as far away from the semi as possible, the airbag never even touched me. My car came to a rest without touching another thing and I was completely unhurt.

My family say I'm lucky...I tend to disagree. If I were lucky, these things wouldn't have happened in the first place right?

I'm interested to hear your stories and how your experiences have changed your lives.

I've been on the edge, March 28th, 1990. I lost 65% of my blood supply 2 weeks after my son was born.

The hospital staff were surprised that I was still alive.

I am only alive because of divine intervention. Call it God/angel/spirit guide whatever you call it I was saved.

I should of died when I was 5 years old. When I tried to follow my cousin across a busy hwy to a hamburger joint. Halfway across I looked over and saw a car heading right for me....I blacked out, woke up under the car without a scratch. Nothing touched me....and I was under the car.

Divine intervention for sure. Especially from the discription the driver gave of the whole situation.

stabbed in the abdomen, almost a thru and thru. knife pulled diagonally across after entry, nearly 10 inches across. near death when admitted to ER, ICU for nearly 3wks. This was a public hospital in a major metropolitan city that is crime ridden and the doctors told me this is the first time they've seen an injury this severe and lived. 2nd brush with death..don't plan for a 3rd unless it's of natural causes...hopefully.

It's between the near-drowning when my brother pushed me off the dock.. and the helicopter crash.

The convenience store robbery I walked into was bad, too.

Nobody wants to see the huge barrel hole of a 12 gauge shotgun in his face... especially when the robber is shaking like a leaf..

I was attacked by a drugged up nutter when I was 16.The guy swung a HUGE knife at the back of my head whilst he held hold of me by the hood on my jacket. I wriggled out of my jacket and managed to escape, the blade coming so close to the back of my head that it knocked my hat off.

He walked 50 yards away from where he attacked me and murdered a random person, stabbing him 33 times in the neck and head.

The murderer committed suicide in prison.

Every day I think of that incident.

Luck or protection, I know it is the latter.

-Dead once (OD), revived obviously.
-Talked my way out of a knife at my belly in Chicago and
years later a gun at my head in SoCal.
-T-boned drivers-side in an '85 Mustang thrown out the passenger window.
Cop said if I had been belted in I would have died.
-Fell asleep on the highway with the cruise control on in a Toyota MR2.
Only thing left of that car was the drivers compartment, GREAT CAR!
-Fell into the Ionian sea, in Winter, fully clothed, drunk and at 2 AM.
Pulled out after 30 minutes or so. I didn't have much longer.
-Hydroplaning at 75mph in a Jetta led to numerous 360's.
Damn lucky the car started right back up as I got us out of oncoming traffic just in time.

Only by God's grace do I still walk this World. ;-`)

I'm thankful to be alive and healthy today.

I probably wouldn't be thankful if I was in pain or distress.

But I'd still be thankful for the good times past.

My mom said that my heart beat flat-lined and had to be brought back to life. I had really bad case of meningitis when I was 20 months old. Lost pretty much all of my hearings.

I was maybe 8 years old when I fell out of the tree trying to get football back. Knocked the wind out of me but man I thought I was dying!

I was 14 years old when a black gang chased me. I came very closed being run over while trying to get away from them.

I was 22 when this idiot was driving in the wrong direction on the highway and I swerved at the last second to avoid head on crash!

I was 22 again when this idiot lost control of his car on the freeway at high speed in heavy rain and crashed into me in my lane. I then lost control and skidded across 4 lanes freeway with the traffic coming at me. I'm shocked that they never hit me while crossing 4 lanes!
