The current known place of the ancient capital is in China just over the NK border and is a world heritage site declared in 2004. But NK does not like that the capitol of the ancient empire is not in North Korea, they need a place to promote Korean heritage in a society that is closed off from outside influence. So they find an archeological site declare it “something” and effectively move the capitol out of china’s hands and back in to north Korean hands so people have a rallying point. Snip; The discovery of the unicorn lair, associated with legend about King Tongmyong, proves that Pyongyang was a capital city of Ancient Korea as well as Koguryo Kingdom.
