I was just sent a letter from the Illinois Department of Revenue that I owe $2500 from 2008. Apparently I forgot to file my Illinois taxes. Anyway, I looked up the return and see that I only owed them $495.00 after deductions, but they're charging me the original amount of $1700 + penalties.
My big problem is that I don't have $2500 to pay - no chance - especially within the next 30 days.
Anyone know of a way to get the amount reduced back to the original amount, or reduced at all? Or maybe get set up on payment plans?
