How can they not find employees? Where I live we have a pretty healthy economy. Despite that, jobs like these would be filled in days.

I lived in Mindrot for 9 months. First time the temp got to 30 below I bailed when it warmed enough to leave. The only hills in Minot are the hills that are created from the bowl that its in. It is quite literally a hole in the ground. Recently the river flooded and the place I stayed while living there was submerged completely in water.

WTF??? Minot State University is up there. These are the types of jobs students usually flock to. Being the suspicious type... I'm thinking that maybe what they're actually doing is exporting/importing a specific type of person that's had some kind of special training... and working at Menard's is only secondary... and temporary. Or they could be dumping long-term unemployed on Minot from another state.

I share your suspicious nature, however that does not appear to be the case here.

Now, your idea about getting folks with certain skills out there under the guise of a Menards job is an interesting thought. ;-`)

In response to the guy from the UK; No you really can't live on $26k a year. At least not in any kind of decent way. You could live in some roach infested dump and ride a bicycle, and you could live ok.

It varies from region to region quite a bit, but here where I live the minimum that a small family can survive on with any kind of decent life is about $30-$35k a year. Even then you're talking about having a single vehicle and not eating out much. I live in a place with a very low cost of living.

Do apartments in ND have roaches?

I'm 58, and I have never seen a roach in any dwelling in the UK, and I've been around.

I saw plenty of roaches when I worked in the ME, though.

I deal with people in Minot DAILY.

I dont know if it is the water, or the living, but they are some of the DUMBEST, most UNFRIENDLY people Ive EVER dealt with (keep in mind, I was a basic training training NCO..)

most companies won't give you insurance, 401k, pto/vacation, incentives etc let alone a decent wage.

north dakota is looking pretty good. the other states should take notes from what they've done with the state bank.

Heh, agreed. Times are tough and there aren't any jobs that are much more than minimum wage to begin with. $13.00 bucks an hour is pretty reasonable but I don't know what min wage is in ND.
