Take a plastic dishpan that is clean, Put all the paperwork, unopened mail, and bills in it. Make a cup of hot tea or cocoa, then go take a warm shower or a soak, and get comfortable clothes on. I turn the tv on to something light or a sitcom in the bedroom. Then lay back on the pillows, sip the tea, open all the mail and throw stuff that I don't need onto the floor. When done, put the bills and important mail in alphabetical order so I can find things easily and quickly, write checks and stuff envelopes for anything urgent. Then I stack all of it back in the dishpan with the current mail to go out on top, all the other bills and paperwork into a two pocket vinyl folder with a hand-written plan of what is owed and when it's due on the top of the pile inside the folder. I include notes of appointments and other things I have to get done on that sheet so I won't forget them. Then I finish the tea, doze off if I'm sleepy, and feel relieved that I have caught up with myself. When I get up, I scoop up the paper on the floor and throw it away. If it's a smaller lack of motivation, I wash dishes and tidy the kitchen, as that is very meditative for me and also accomplishes something. |
