Next Time you are Feeling Sorry for Yourself....
Imagine you were me.....

I am 37. I was married for 4 years.
Lost my job in January.
My wife left me 2 weeks later.
Living with my parents again after 20 years.
About 100 lbs overweight.
Deeply depressed. No sex for almost a year, no prospects of any female companionship. Even if I wanted to hire a prostitute I couldn't afford it. I am in love with a woman who has no idea and I am too cowardly to tell her. I am suffering from what experts call "limerence".
Everyday before I go to sleep I pray to God to kill me in my sleep.
I would do it myself but it would break my parents hearts and they are genuinely good people.
I have a brother who has has schizoid personality disorder, so I hide my depression from my parents as best I can so they don't have to stress about me as well.

In my old life, when I was a young man, and full of piss and vinegar, I was a writer with a small modicum of success. I have had writers block for almost 15 years. The few friends I have, most of whom I hear from once every 3 months with a short "hello" on facebook, think I am writing a novel. I start it every week and the farthest along I've gotten was the second paragraph.

I haven't left my house in 6 days.

Next time you think you're life is going badly, be thankful you weren't incarnated into my existence. I know there are others that have it as bad or worse off than me. But it doesn't make it hurt any less.

I know this. Emotional pain is impossible to measure. As I stated I know there are others worse off than me-in more dire situations. Things could be worse. But right now I just feel rock bottom-in fact, tears are streaming down my face as I write this.

I know how you're feeling, praying for an apocalypse, or an escape of any kind. At least you're not a drug addict. Do you have a job? If not finding one will restore some self worth.

while your reminder that there is always someone worse off than you are is a goodone , this probably isn't what you are wanting to hear, but...

i don't feel sorry for you.

there's a lot in what you said that YOU have the power to change.

start with one thing, even something small and build from that.

literally visualize yourself being happy and successful and living the life you want.

turn it around, buddy, you can if you really want to!

Life is cyclic. You even said so in your post in an indirect sort of way...

You were married for 4 years BUT before you were married you were NOT married.

You lost your job in Jan BUT before you lost your job, you had your job.

Your wife left you BUT before she left you, she was with you.

You are 100lbs overweight BUT before that you were not.

No sex for almost a year BUT before that you got a lil sum sum.

THE CYCLIC REVERSAL

In your old life you were spunky BUT now you are depressed.

You used to write BUT now you have writer's block.

You left the house BUT now you have not.

Now simply take your roller coaster ride back up the hill and get ready for a great ride down. Only you can get on the ride, or simply walk by the line of fun people anticipating the rush.
SMILE...you're not as stupid as they think you are!

Re: Next Time you are Feeling Sorry for Yourself....
TAKE 'positive' steps to cut DOWN your weight gain; SET goals, and stick to them; line up things you are going to do that CAN'T fail, tomorrow, 3 days from now, and month from NOW !

As each one comes and goes, replace it with another, that GENERALLY DOESN'T involve others that CAN fail you. This way you will begin to like yourself and others will too ! Take up a sport ( like tennis ) and work at improving your play. This gives YOU positive feed back from others in the group, and goals to achieve . BEEN THERE; DID THAT and it worked.

P.S. There are few 'fatties' on the court, and you CAN'T have temper tantrums, or no one will play with you.

Re: Next Time you are Feeling Sorry for Yourself....
Op it gets better trust me. I was in a similar situation minus the wife taking off and just this week after months of stress and depression the light has come! The mountain was so big and we have made it through the storm with little hope. I actually can't believe it and I'm still trying to accept it! If you really have the feelings of wanting to die you should really tell someone though. I had the same feelings but never would go through with it either because of the others in my life. It's the most selfish thing anyone can do and what happens after? Hang in there and get out and try to associate with others even though you may not want to. Get a job even if the pay is poor just to get out and back into life interacting with others. You can do it! peace

Re: Next Time you are Feeling Sorry for Yourself....
OP, try this.
Teach yourself that this is just a phase in your
life.
Remind yourself that you never know what
is around the next bend in the road.
Then, drag yourself to the nearest Salvation
Army or soup kitchen and volunteer to dish out
the soup.
Then, when you go back home, write what happened
that day, who you met, how they affected you
and what they must feel like.
When you have enough stories of people you've
met, compile them into a book.
It really sounds like your spirits need a jump start
and getting out there and helping these people,
getting to know them will make you feel tons better.
Don't worry about what anyone thinks of you.
It's not about you. It's about them. The happiness
that creeps in, almost unbidden will be a by-product
of what you're able to give. Believe me, it does work.
Been there, done that.
And who knows, a lovely lady might be volunteering
at the same place. You just never know...and that's
the whole point. :-)

I'm 24, tried to pass highschool, but failed my finals 4 times. I'm not allowed to pass it anymore. Living at my parent's house. Had just 2 girlfriends in my life. Haven't had sex or kissed since January last year. Can't find a job.

I spend my days being at home helping both my parents at daily tasks because they are both ill.. But I don't know what to do. I gave life up, but I won't kill myself because that would sadden my parents. And I love them, I mean, I really love them. Couldn't live without them.

Re: Next Time you are Feeling Sorry for Yourself....
the answer to the universe is 42 and ill tell you why.

in my days, i have slept with 42 women.

on the 42'nd woman, i realized that a man is not a man if he is obsessed with a woman.

A woman brings down a man to her level.
tempts the man to eat the bread of death,
tempts the man with alcohol.
lures him with open legs.

God said to the man " i see that you ate the bread of death that the woman has tempted you with!, its your fault not hers!!!!

Your the man, no woman can tell you anything.

i see that you might be alone and with ur parents etc etc but in this day and age with the economy the way it is you are better off living with your parents and not having a woman to rob you of your personal freedom and money that you dont have.

better times are coming this way for all of us my friend and i urge you to use this time that you have alone right now and learn about the Sun and its effects on the earth, because very soon the savior will return in great glory and you will have forgotten your sorrows.

Hey OP you need to ask the Universe, your higher self or a god or anybody whose higher than you to help you out from this hell hole you're stuck in.

You've it good. You are not 65, only 37. Thats like being 27 since 30s are the new 20s. Plenty of time ahead of you. People have created billion dollar companies in their 60s and you're still young.

Get help. Go see a doc. Get medicine if you have to for depression but dont just sit there feeling sorry. There are plenty of ways to interact with other singles in your area. Read the local newspaper, there are definitely places you go to meet single friends and have adventures and stuff. We have plenty like here. You must too.

Or better yet. Attend an evening class at a community college. They're not that expensive and you'll meet plenty of people there for friendship. Attend an arts class and start painting.

The point is, do something. Anything! Aristotle said an activity might not bring happiness but there is no happiness without activity. So thats your problem. Become active.

Go to this website now and see how moritia therapy can help you out. I've found it to be of tremendous value in my own personal life.

I am not bitter, but OP's problems are nothing compared to many folks out there, and it looks like whining over a minor run of minor bad luck to me. Nothing that is not insurmountable.

OP has 2 living loving parents, loving enough to home him when things haven't worked out for him for one reason or another. OP is young and has already been married. Better to have loved than lost. Plenty more fish in the sea. Plenty more years to come. OP's overweight, go on a diet. OP lost his job, find a new job, create a job for yourself. Deeply depressed. Well, I'd wager over half the planet is, and I'd also wager most of them have more reason to be than OP's pitiful excuses. No hope of female companionship @ 37?? No sex for over a year, big fucking deal. Can't afford a hooker. Crack one out and get over yourself. OP is clearly intelligent, and can clearly write well, and has reasonably good command of the English language as is evident by use of words such as 'modicum' and clearly has a lot going for him. More than many.

Honestly these are not real problems. You have no fucking clue. God knows how you would cope with real problems. Maybe they would be the making of you. Perhaps thats what you really need, some real problems that will snap you out of your narcissistic self-pity.

And I will tell you this, hate is something that most people thankfully will never have the misfortune to truly feel or understand.

When you've had your family quite literally destroyed by your own abusive sociopathic father over the course of 40 years, thats left all but him and his sellout daughter penniless, and has seen other family members try and take their own lives over all he is done, the magnitude of which just goes off the fucking scale, then folk can talk to me about hate, and I'll listen to your whining, meanwhile...

stfu and grow a pair, you have everything going for you.
