Ummm, diesels do not have spark plugs, they do not have ignition systems. They can run w/o ANY electricity.

Buy two cars. Cause the odds of your wrecking the 1st one is high at your age.

Buy an old car that is smog exempt, it will save you alot of headaches. Or... Buy a newer year car, because they are easier to repair and diagnose.. If you can, get a truck or a van because they are better for hauling stuff..

If you fuck around with cars from 80's youre gonna have problems because parts are sometimes hard to find, especially sensors and things of that nature...

European cars are shit, especially the ones made in France and Italy. And the German ones are overrated. Europeans were the first to make cars, yet they still cannot produce good-looking cars like American ones and trouble-free one like the Japanese ones. The only European makes that are semi-fine are Saab and Volvo.

American Fords always look better than European ones (except for EU-designed shit like the Fiesta and the Focus).

And to that guy from Luxemburg -- at least Bulgaria is one of the oldest states in Europe, unlike your fake state with a nation that's made entirely by German-French mutts.

Do NOT buy a "cool" car that's a money pit....a dependable economy car will save you money that could be used for fun instead of repairs, buying gas, and higher insurance, etc as for a sporty car...

But kids your age tend to be very image conscious so you're gonna get that fixer upper cool car anyway....

Semi-fine?? Volvo is probably the easiest to work on and most reliable car there is today.. and they will last FOREVER. Saab is genius in a whole different way then any company (except the fact that they spent TOO much on the details)

Have you even driven a German car? Old German cars are the ONLY way to go. Ever driven a BMW e30? Probably THE best handling car I have ever experienced... Who needs pure acceleration, when you can out handle everyone in the corners at a consistent pace?

OP...you want a fun almost indestructible ride?
Try a 2000-2002 Geo or Chevy Tracker 4x4.
I have a few vehicles, from a 2012 F-250, a 2004 Subaru Baja, but one of my favs is a 2001 Chevy Tracker soft top.
Mine has 180k miles on it and a few modifications.
The Mods are simple...a 4 inch lift, 31 inch wheels a periscopic exhaust, bush bars and bush lights.
Bought the Tracker for $3k and the mods cost me about $1800
Still has the original clutch despite me beating the shit out of it.
That little bugger goes anywhere anytime in any on or off road conditions.
It will put a Rover or Hummer to shame.
Before I put in the lifter kit and the bigger tires it got 27 MPG.
Now it gets about 23.
Factory added huge plus.
If you are negligent with something as simple as checking your oil...the sucker has a sensor that will shut the motor off when the oil gets to low.
My youngest daughter will get her license in February and I'm giving her this old SUV cuz it's dependable.

if you go with a european car stick with saab or volvo. if you go asian i would say go with a decent running toyota but stay away from corrolas and camrys. but remember, if you go with an import it may run for a while but any and all repairs will cost you alot. maintenance on imports is very expensive. if you go with american stay away from ford.

but what ever you go with before you buy go online and check car forums to see what kind of problems said car brand has. car forums are a great research tool for getting info on a new car.

Get a Toyota. In my experience, they run forever! Ford and Chevy seem to be problematic...
