anavriN User ID: 28805284 Australia 12/01/2012 03:03 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I stupidly bought a nissan 300zx when i was 16, has 600+rwhp right now 4 years later...also had a nissan silvia with rb20det I used to drift in at the track, lots of fun but as I'm growing out of the car junkie hobby I realised I wished I spend the $100k+ on a deccent 4WD and other things instead. I now own my own home so will be looking into buying a hilux in the next year or so using my equity, toyota never dies (had an AE71, thrashed it till the cops pinged me with a yellow sticker for a loose battery tie and a brake light fault, cool car never would die) Anything in life worth doing is worth overdoing. YOUCITY User ID: 18850702 United States 12/01/2012 03:16 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Be patient , the deal of a lifetime comes around more often than you think. I see one sometimes once or twice a year , i just don't happen to have the proper funds at the time. No lie , earlier this summer , I could have bought from my neighbor , a ''09 VW jetta , automatic , leather , sunroof , less than 20 maybe even 15 thousand miles on it and it's the top model jetta they make! Minor cosmetic damage worth around 2 grand to fix. She took 5 grand for it ! Blue book without the damage was near 15 Gs. If you wait long enough I'm almost certain you will find yourself in a car you never even emaigined you could get. So I would say start imagining and be patient and it will come. Be sure and let us know how it turns out. Btw , your still young so , hmm, how can I put it , I guess let's just say you happen to find a top of the line automobile. If you get a hoopty or something your not thrilled about but is totally economically wise ,then in 5 or 10 years you eventually get your dream car or close to it, it's gonna be so much more sweet than if you just started out with one to begin with. Happy hunting |

My 02 Maxima is running like gold, the engines in these things are bricks (literally). A v8 with 335hp or some such, I know several other owners who have cars over 15 years old and nothings has given. Ac even works and leather's still pristine (more than I can say for my friends less than 10 year old Toyota). Got mine back in 04 and was only 13k with less than 30k on it, should be dirt cheap now, I imagine. |

Invest the rest in gold and silver. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 27413131 Don't buy an old American car, because it will cost you more in repairs than owning an old Japanese car. Subarus and Mercedes are not worth their higher selling price, and also are a lot more costly to repair (which will be practically guaranteed on any used car) than Honda or Toyota. wrong, do some reserch into why ppl get extremely hih miles from Ford Escorts and Rangers. Reliability + cheap pepairs. |

Smash_The_ZOG User ID: 1348494 United States 12/01/2012 10:15 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Not good enough if you want to protect against EMP. You need a mechanically-injected diesel: engines like the Toyota Hilux's 2.2L diesel, Ford F250/350's 6.9ILDI and 7.3IDI (only pre-1994.5 for the 7.3, to make things more confusing), Chevy/GMC's 6.2 Detroit Diesel (and the 1992 6.5L Detroit, if you can find it), the Humvee's 6.5L Detroit Diesel if you can find surplus, and, best (and most expensive), the Cummins 5.9 Direct Injection (extremely reliable and, for a truck of its age, relatively fuel efficient). If you anticipate an EMP, roads will quickly become too treacherous; get 5 good off-road tires, a truck w/4x4, and a winch with a couple spare straps at bare minimum. |
Smash_The_ZOG User ID: 1348494 United States 12/01/2012 10:17 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | That said, a dirt bike is a much more economical (and fun!) choice if you're not worried about EMP and don't need lots of carrying capacity. Plus, they're more versatile off-road than the most built-up trucks. You can carry lots of supplies at least in a large backpack. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 28500452 United States 12/01/2012 10:42 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | WRONG!! I'm a dealer and will tell you first hand the public are the ones that will screw you! Why? They don't have a reputation to uphold then when you call them with a problem they say go f yourself! I even as a dealer have been burnt by those slimy bstards. Also I sell vehicles for way less than private party. Why? Because I buy them wholesale from new car stores that trade them in and then mark them up a little to sell them quick. Stereotype BS but anyway yes take the others advice and get a Honda or Toyota. Corolla with the vvti engine is one of the best engines ever produced. I have a daily driver 2003 civic hybrid with a stick shift 160k and I have done NOTHING to it in over a year other than change oil. Good luck OP. |

BG43214 User ID: 18147015 United States 12/01/2012 10:53 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Go to the library and look up the April issue of Consumer Reports magazine....that's their annual Auto issue....there you can check all used cars by name and see how they stack up for reliability, etc. Then there are, I'm sure, many online sites that can do the same thing for you... I think it's Edmund's a very old publication, also online, that can give you lots of good info of any car you are thinking of...... I got my used Ford Focus from CarMax.....it's a 2003 and only one owner.....when I showed it to my friends and family, they could not believe it was a used car, it looks so good.....low mileage is important, too...... and always check the VIN number with CarFax, not to be confused with Car MAX.......has the car's complete history. but most important of all, & you probably already know this, change the oil regularly!!!! so please, do your 'homework' and have fun with it. and when you do find the 'car of your dreams' enjoy it!!! |

Your country is going nowhere but the pit of oblivion, and you better start fucking planning for it. I wouldn't be pissing away dollar one right now if I was you. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 27428056 amen to this! One could argue that an unreliable beater car is not a wise choice if the SHTF. You want something you can rely on because you may not be able to buy another car for a long time until the economy / USA dollar sorts itself out. |

Its to easy to spin out after the first rain because of the roads being slick with oil. OP you can check Craigs list and find somthing decent. A used Outback is good as we picked one up for 5k. The Chevy S10 truck is good but gas mileage around 16-17 mpg. Be smart and look for a vehicle that gets at least 40 mpg because gas prices will continue to go up. The truth is incontrovertible. Paid 2300 for it 8 years ago. It has the 3.1 V6 motor with a jetrag 5 speed tranny. This car runs good, it's fairly quick, and parts are cheap. This car has never left me stranded. Great car for a 17 year old and they don't look to bad. There are a lot of body kits for this car for cheap as well. They can be made to look pretty cool. |
