spoils of war is an antiquated concept no longer recognized (and officially rejected) by international law. it had been before the 67 war as well.

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has criticised Israel's decision to build 3,000 settler homes in East Jerusalem and the West Bank.

"In light of today's announcement, let me reiterate that this administration - like previous administrations - has been very clear with Israel that these activities set back the cause of a negotiated peace," Clinton said on Friday.

Clinton was speaking at a forum in Washington hosted by the Saban Center for Middle East Policy. Avigdor Lieberman, the Israeli foreign minister, and Ehud Barak, defence minister, were in the audience when she made her remarks.

which would mean not exercising our veto power in UN action on the subject. i have no problem with an Israeli right to exist within the borders of their LEGAL country. the time for debate over that is long past. but the constant expansionism into territory they manufacture reasons to militarily occupy is a blatant affront to international law. such actions were our motivation for "desert storm", at least officially. no more double standards of conduct.

The Palestinians say it's 'occupied territory' which I say is rubbish. That land belongs to Israel, so they have every right to build there.
