Right to Work Law --- what do ya think of it?

such laws render collective bargaining impossible, and allow employers to run roughshod over their employees. i work blue collar in a "right to work" state. the long term consequences of such laws is the lowering of wages all across the blue collar fields, the flight of truly skilled trades and crafts workers, and depressed economy in general. a well paid work force is the engine of a healthy economy. that idea is borne out by examination of EVERY boom or bust in this country. the slow destruction of unions over the past 3 decades is one of the MAJOR factors in the sorry shape of our economy.

Personally, I support the Right to Work laws.

Joining a union should not be a requirement for employment. There may have been a time when unions were a positive thing. Now? Not so much. Not when there are certain union leaders who are no more than thugs.

I think you might be wrong on 'legally hire illegals' - if its against the law -well-its against the law. However, there might be a lot more research to be done on the 'legalities' per state and hireing illegals.

no, i certainly am not a union worker. i'm a non union welder in florida (a right to work state). i have seen what unions can do, and what a lack of ability to unionize does. i have seen well paying industries go to shit when the unions got "busted" and non union workers flooded it. i have seen shops where the union was voted out, and the abuses of power started within weeks. if you cant have a "closed shop" you can not effectively engage in collective bargaining. i honestly dont give a damn what you "buy", history bears out every one of my stances. the booming middle class of the mid 20th century was because of strong union membership. the slow disintegration of the middle class in this country EXACTLY follows the loss of union power in labor and trades. working conditions before the union boom were deplorable. job site safety, wages, spending power, and the entire local economy all see an uptick when unions gain power, all ALWAYS go down when unions lose power. but go ahead, allow your governor to enact such a law, and then come back in 10 years and tell me much everything has improved, lol. im not going to hold my breath, because i KNOW what will happen, and YOU will find out at your own expense.

"Right to Work" does nothing to stop a person from joining a union. It just says union membership can not be required to get a job. Unions still exist in right to work states.

Hey, I have said it a few times - I just heard of this law 'tonight' on my local news, I know very little about it.

What little I know of unions is that they extort.

My question would be, why can't the employees unite and call the companies on the carpet without the unions extorting money from all the employees?

If all employees walk out-the company threatens firing them all and they will be replaced by others...that company has to pay a hugh amount to train all new employees...

My mind is whirling from info right now but, it so far seems that the RTW law is a good thing.....maybe I would think different if I ever worked in a situation that had a union. IDK

Corporations and Lawmakers can and will be corrupt also. At least a union will somewhat watch your back if they are corrupt or not. A CEO, bankster, or politician will feed you shit and tell you to like it.
