We know now, that the Mayan calendar does not predict the end of life, but the beginning of a new age. Things will be a lot different. We may not notice it right away, but something may happen (probably deep in some lab somewhere) that will spell a real sea change for humanity.

Rumor has it that fallen angels pulled off this trick before God destroyed the world with Noah's flood and it is the reason God wiped everything out. This theory makes sense because the Bible suggests that our age will be like the age of Noah. Only, this time instead of fallen angles messing with human DNA it will be we ourselves who break the forbidden rule.
