Having put myself through college with no loans, no grants and no help from anyone I know this is completely possible even while living at the proverty level. The key is go to college in the state one lives in, don't live on campus - stay at home or rent a room if possible, start in a Jr. College and then transfer to a University after getting an AA. And just to be clear - a BA will not guarentee anyone a job. People need to go to trade school and specialize in fields where there is a need for that particular expertise. Oh... and for money - hold down a job and stop looking for handouts. Sometimes I think the youth just aren't very creative or really willing to work when it comes to making money. Even a housekeeper in this area earns $25 an hour. 4 hours a day is $100. Not to bad for someone with few skills other then cleaning. The truth is incontrovertible. The interest was over ten percent and each semester actually calculated separately. The interest actually accrued exponentially. Most twenty something's couldn't grasp that. The AmScheme tried to convince students that borrowing money actually equates to greater overall lifetime earning power. Now they rescind that notion. We still use this mentality in housing and credit policy. " buy now and save" is our national mantra. Credit scores, for example,reward the use of credit and punish those using cash or saving instead of spending. It's systemic.
