Re: Obama Calls for additional $1 TRILLION student loan bailout for his bankster buddies
A possible $1 trillion bailout is coming—and soon.

America’s now-nationalized student loan industry just reached a value of $1 trillion, according to Citigroup, growing at a 20 percent-per-year pace. Since President Obama nationalized the industry (a tacked-on provision of the Obamacare bill), tuition has gone up 25 percent and the three-year default rate is at a record 13.4 percent.

...

Adding another $1 trillion dollars to the national debt isn’t exactly “forgiveness” for young people—it’s prolonging the payoff. In fact, student loan bailouts are a catch-22 for young people because they’re going to be held accountable for paying off the national debt and interest payments.

A student loan bailout will also be rewarding higher education bureaucrats for a diminished product. A college degree used to mean that a person would add on average $1 million to their income over their lifetime. Today a college degree only guarantees an average $300,000 in added income over a lifetime.

this really pisses me off, i worked two jobs and went to school full time in order to pay for my own college tuition and now i will be forced to pay for someone else's?

i was in class one day and this guy asked the professor why he never took a day off and canceled class. the prof said to him, "you are paying for this, it wouldn't be right for me just to take off days for the hell of it." the guy just stared blankly for a moment or two and said, "i ain't paying for it, you don't think i would be here if I HAD TO PAY FOR IT? i gets it free."

son of a b*tch, i am sick of paying for damn parasites and leeches.

News flash brain child. Someone has been, and will always be, paying for hat you enjoy now. Infrastructure, education, communications, military, social security, retirement....it's not like your money is actually in a bank somewhere multiplying to cover the cost of the things you enjoy. I payed on my loans for twenty years as a single father and I barely made interest payments. I have never been on welfare and have always worked two jobs. Wake the fuck up. Why do you fucking fiscal conservatives always refuse to see what your pro life, pro capitolist views have created? The American
Scheme promotes borrowing as responsible fiscal policy. The eighties were all about debt as a means to success. Student loans were actually pushed on many of us by eager beaver, on campus bank reps and fed loan folks as a cool way to pay for school. The interest was over ten percent and each semester actually calculated separately. The interest actually accrued exponentially. Most twenty something's couldn't grasp that. The AmScheme tried to convince students that borrowing money actually equates to greater overall lifetime earning power. Now they rescind that notion. We still use this mentality in housing and credit policy. " buy now and save" is our national mantra. Credit scores, for example, reward the use of credit and punish those using cash or saving instead of spending. It's systemic. But why blame the culture when you can blame those that got suckered into believing what it taught?

no moron, i did what i could when i could. there is quality education out there if you are willing to look for it and attending a state uni is the most reasonable. i did two years at a community college and then on to a four year degree at university all of my credits transferred.

i did it in the late 90's and early 2000's, so i am not that far removed from college days. a question for your tiny mind to ponder. how come the left always screeches about BIG OIL, BIG BUSINESS, and BIG TABACCO, but never peeps about BIG EDUCATION? what the hell costs sooooooooooooo much? the more the gov gets involved the higher the tuition costs duh, are making the connection yet?

yes, re-newed capitalism. capitalism has done more to lift more people out of poverty than any other system known to man. that our capitalist system was infected with socialism is the reason it no longer is working and we are dying as a capitalist nation.

if you put our history on a chart one can easily see the introduction of socialism and our steady decline into poverty and third-worldism.

Yep, we told our kids that a degree in Feminist Literature at a price tag of 50K was more valuable than a plumbing certificate or an electricians licence.

If you want to empower young women, teach 'em a skill they can use, or send them to get an engineering degree.

70K for a degree in Social Work, fuck that.

If the government won't be held accountable for paying off their debts, then why should the American public?

It has nothing to do about responsibility, or doing the right thing.

If that was the case every level of government would be debt free.

No the government decided to make it more difficult to file bankruptcy for the public, but no problem for them.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 19442819

Exactly.

And I find it funny that Congress has spent us into this deep shit, and somehow the Democrat party keeps saying it's the responsibility of "the wealthy" to dig us out (which is now mathematically impossible even at a 100% tax rate).

The "millionairs and billionaires" didn't spend us into collapse, the gawdamned Congress and the "President" did.

Let them pay for it. Seize their assets and liquidate them.
 Quoting: Carshy McCarsh

You're naive - the congress spends money on things like imperialist wars, bank bailouts, the military industrial complex, and corporate welfare which end up in the pockets of the millionaires and billionaires. In addition, things like globalism and free trade and low taxes for the top decrease revenue for us and therefore contribute to the debt - all that money also goes in to the pockets of the top. Like this bailout - the banks made bad loans they should take the loss. Instead the people will and the bonus money the bank's management and ceos made while those loans were on the right side of the ledger they get to keep.

yes, re-newed capitalism. capitalism has done more to lift more people out of poverty than any other system known to man. that our capitalist system was infected with socialism is the reason it no longer is working and we are dying as a capitalist nation.

if you put our history on a chart one can easily see the introduction of socialism and our steady decline into poverty and third-worldism.

Socialism is an economic system characterized by social ownership of the means of production and co-operative management of the economy, and a political philosophy advocating such a system.

Or an easier way of understanding socialism is simply the government planning of the economy. This has been done through bailing out failed companies, manipulating interest rates, price controls, wage controls (minimum wage laws) work hours controls, tax breaks to politically connected corporations, subsidizing farmers, GM, Solyndra, etc., subsidizing health care, forced participation in medicare and social security...the list goes on and on.

The "good" thing about socialism is that it ALWAYS fails. Our socialist government and centrally planned economy is about to collapse completely. Then we can rebuild into an anarcho-capitalism system which will bring prosperity, wealth, fairness, and freedom to middle class and working poor. The moochers will obviously be upset because they will actually have to be productive and work for a living.

bullshit. socialism is what is wrong with this country and it is so designed to keep itself in power while the elite enrich themselves. without the socialist doctrine and dependent people voting for themselves "vulture capitalism" (? whatever), would not have the power to flourish.

Ah half a definition - a socialist economic system would consist of a system of production and distribution organized to directly satisfy economic demands and human needs, so that goods and services would be produced directly for use instead of for private profit

What we have is s system which supports private enterprises that make profits which are then paid to the top of the economic chain - that's not socialism. Then they make sure they reduce the capital gains and dividend taxes and the income taxes so the wealth stays at the top. That's also not socialism. We have s system that rewards the TOP and punishes the middle and bottom (now with austerity and cuts to entitlements because of massive wealth transfers via deficit spending). Exactly the OPPOSITE of what a socialist system would do. Again STFU if you have no clue.

Re: Obama Calls for additional $1 TRILLION student loan bailout for his bankster buddies
My theory is this; the economy only improves when people spend money. Ideally, American's would be savers and be cheapskates, but that's not conducive to a growing economy, which is on the shoulders of our dictator-in-chief...whoever it may be at any given time. This is precisely why our government encourages debt; money spent elevates the economy, even if the dumbass spending it can't afford to spend it.

The real beauty of if it is when our beloved government prints money, (which literally is nothing more than a computer transaction since physical money is seldom printed and it only exists as numbers on paper somewhere), the government is making out like a bandit. They can "print", say $1,000,000 for "x" number of kids to go to college. That money gets paid back, (which is all profit since it cost the government virtually nothing) plus interest! They are generating revenue for themselves out of thin air and it materializes out of the student's pocket.

There is an excellent video on the 'tube called "wealth as debt" or "money as debt" which is really a cartoon but does an excellent job of explaining how our banking system works.

This is also why our own government was so quick to bail out the crooked bastards on Wall Street; because the returns are 110% profit. Pull "money" out of thin air, give it to corrupt bankers and get REAL money back. If fuckin' magic!
I only believe half of what I read and even half of that is bullshit.

You guys are too far on one side or the other.

Yes students should pay their debt - students SHOULD receive proportional assistence if the jobs aren't there...

Seriously, what difference does it make if we pay the student debt now and pay for it over time?

It WOULD be a boast in the economy for the GOOD students out there that aren't low-life welfare leeches...

If banks are bailed-out while people are left on the street - all this bitching about helping the young people seems over the top - like displaced resentment or something...

Here, we'll tell you all through school you need to go to college, you'll go to college and rack up some form of debt - now good luck finding a job sucker - you tried to follow good advice and got shafted for trying to better yourself...

I think young people could use a boost - notice how some regard us like trash - so some act like trash - where is that better full-proof role-model and ideal job-path?

Full payment, over the top, proportional assistance so the future of America can have some breathing room? Why not?

Bitchin' on both sides isn't helping anything, school isn't $20 like it was in the 70s - and we have to pay our dues - is a compromise impossible because everyone is so damn opinionated?
