Student loans were actually pushed on many of us by eager beaver, on campus bank reps and fed loan folks as a cool way to pay for school. The interest was over ten percent and each semester actually calculated separately. The interest actually accrued exponentially. Most twenty something's couldn't grasp that. The AmScheme tried to convince students that borrowing money actually equates to greater overall lifetime earning power. Now they rescind that notion. We still use this mentality in housing and credit policy. " buy now and save" is our national mantra. Credit scores, for example,reward the use of credit and punish those using cash or saving instead of spending. It's systemic.
